Which fights contained Reg Gutteridge`s best commentary?

I like Ian Darke, although I admit I haven’t watched a lot of fights he called.

But he’s great with a turn of phrase.

I remember his call during a World Cup match: “He could open a can of tomato soup with his left foot.” Poetry.

Eubank was Reg’s favourite ever fighter. And he knew Ali well…

 

I remember Reg coming out with that comment about Eubank. I'll never forget him interviewing Muhammad Ali in between rounds during Muhammad's fight with Rudi Lubbers. We're not going to see that happen anymore if at all.

"Hearns doing a bit of involuntary breakdancing" Reg during Hagler-Hearns fight.

 

If I recall correctly, when Reg was commentating on Hagler vs Hearns, after the first round, he put his hand over the mic, turned to Don Curry who was co-commentating with him and just said "f**king hell".

 

Agree Reg and Jim were great but have to Say Darke and McCrory while not as good definitely better than anyone else commentating in the UK at the moment

 

In Denmark we have always loved his commentary to the Jørgen Hansen - Dave Green fight.

 

I remember just before Benn vs McClellan fight started he said something like "Bruno's last opponent couldn't stand up in a 15 mile an hour wind, unlike these two who can take it and dish it out"

I recall that fight well,Woller. Very short but plenty of action while it lasted.

 

Great tribute to a great commentator. And some of those fight highlights of yesteryear brought back some damn fine memories
