He's an handful and an hard fella to beat yes, but long as John doesn't get dragged in to his type of battle, then John can out score him. I think he can, he has to watch it though with Dwight.
Stylistically I think a prime, motivated Conteh is a real nightmare for Qawi. Jab, move, jab, move. Plus, John didn't throw a lot of right hands, which Qawi loved to counter. That makes it especially hard for him. Conteh by close but deserved decision.
Big Conteh fan so will let my heart rule my head and go for him but a true 50/50. Qawi swarming high output would cause a real problem for Conteh especially as John had awful hand problems his right hand was a fencer towards the end of his career, his left jab was what he won a lot of fights off jab, move.
Conteh did deal with Ahumada's pressure quite well in a tough 15 rounder, and Spinks did control Qawi with the jab which was Conteh's speciality. But then again Conteh didn't hit as hard as Spinks. I feel like Conteh would have to get Qawi's respect, and not just rely on the jab. But if Conteh is at his absolute best with no hand problems, I think he could win a decision over Qawi.
Nice one,Fergy. If John is fully fit with no hand injuries he decsions Qawi in a bout that would be an action packed classic. John's overall ability and skill makes the difference. As dangerous as the Buzzsaw is.
Conteh as well at peak with his style movement could well of frustrated Qawi. The style of fight imo goes two ways a real classic but don't rule out cuts to both men. Qawi swarming in head down and Conteh never shy in making sure he didn't come off worse when heads got close!
Qawi's jab is just as effective as Conteh's. His aggressive counterpunching style won't be easy to overcome.
Really intriguing clash of styles. Not convinced I could confidently pick a winner. Conteh would have to do a Michael Spinks and keep Qawi resetting. Not sure he could for 15 rounds.
