If Roy was Joe`s age in the same era how much success would he have had at 160, 175 or heavyweight? Which weights would have have competed at?
His physical athleticism would help a lot but fighting as often as he’d have to and taking fights on short notice which men had to do to make money in those days would make for a very different record.
Glenn Miller would alter the lyrics and do s special rendition of ‘Pensacola 6-5000’ for him. As for the comment from the esteemed @mr. magoo, I’m not so sure. I don’t think the men of Louis’ day were made of something that Roy didn’t possess — his upbringing with an abusive father wouldn’t be easier than they had. I think he’d adapt. I also think his speed and power would make for a lot of short fights (I do think they’d be no better equipped to deal with Roy’s blink-and-you’re-in-the-locker-room-asking-what-hit-you speed and in his environment I don’t think Roy shies away from trying to destroy guys like he did in his time (after what happened to McClellan he took a less savage approach because he didn’t want to have anyone end up like that at his hand).
I think the much lesser availability of film of fighters would work in his favor. He'd constantly be up against men who knew nothing about him other than he was known as really fast. Would make for a LOT of real short fights. Any modern fighters with freak attributes would get a bonus due to this.
I don't know how widespread it was but Kid Chocolate from that era was already studying tape and Schmelling picked up on some Joe Louis tendencies on tape too didn't he?
Would have stepped right up for a payday then right back down again afterwards. But would have stepped up again after the war (if he survived) and been knocked out much more quickly. They would have contested p4p together, it would have been very beautiful.
