hy do we pretend that these guys aren’t complete trash? A one fight amateur would get yelled at by their coach for all the stupid mistakes these guys make. They have no athleticism, no skill, and they can’t box for ****. I’m fine with respecting them for their time when the sport was amateurish, but why do we even consider them in a comparison to fighters today? These ‘all time greats’ couldn’t win an amateur novice tournament. Watch the video, they are absolute trash boxers.

They have literally no sense of range, no defense, no iq. This isn’t boxing, this is a Rocky movie.

A lot of precise boxer-punchers were well adapted for a 15 round fight. Usually they would pace for a few rounds and measure distance, get a taste for the opponents power and technique. And then start to go to work. They didnt need to worry about fights going to the cards or gassing out because they trained for stamina and knew how to pace themselves. And they knew the fight wasnt going 15 rounds anyways because they were going to score the stoppage sometime in rounds 10-15. Alexis Arguello was the perfect 15 rounder IMO.

AJ would have been put down in the two Usyk fights if there had been another 3 rounds. Certainly in the first fight, at the end of round 12 Usyk was just using him as a punch bag.

I recently watched the Ali v Frazier clash again, and as we know Ali got knocked down a couple of times and sprung up quickly to get back at Frazier. The destruction to Frazier's face, in my opinion was in those last few rounds. When you see the post fight photos and the fact that he was hospitalised the next day, couldn't stand, urinate or open his eyes properly. Yes Ali lost the fight and also went to hospital with a suspected broken jaw. Is this really where it should go back to? 15 rounds should stay where it is, in the history books in my opinion.

I don't know if it's been said on this thread yet or not but if anyone on this forum knows everything about taking shot after shot after shot after shot, it's the thread starter. Trust me on that.

It completely counters your point. You stated that these guys who fought often and could go 15 were engaged in sparring matches. I gave you two examples from two different eras that prove you probably don't even watch or read about older fights and fighters. This is also befor the strength and condition Coach BS. Do you want me to list all the great 15 rd fights lol

Thats not what I said and I think you're being dense on purpose. Half of the fights back then absolutely were glorified sparing matches. When people say that older era fighters were tougher because they fought 10 times in one month it doesn't mean anything because half of those fights were glorified sparing matches. But if you want to completely change what I said and claim that I think all fights back then were sparing matches then go ahead. We'll end this stupid argument right here.

Naming two action-packed fights completely counters his point? How do you figure that?

If I named 3 oldtimer fights, that had so little action, that both boxers were thrown out for putting up no effort at all - would that "top" your opinion? No, of course not - it just goes to show, that we can all pick whichever fights we like to "prove" our point.

Exactly!!! Old time boxers would fight so often they didn’t seem to get out of shape…

    Complete horse**** on AJ’s part…
Pretty foolish comment when you see big, fat Fury never running out of gas.

The big muscles don’t help either.
I remember watching a Greek God in Frank Bruno gassing out to a fat Tim Witherspoon.

Have you read Compton's book on Greb? There are endless newspaper accounts of how incredibly violent those fights tended to be. The complete opposite of 'glorified sparring matches. Load & loads of blood, broken bones, lumps, concussions, FOULING etc. Why on earth would they foul so much if they were holding back?
