I have no idea whether this was made public but my old pal Kirkland Laing told me he lost a particular fight because he had been having, erm how can I put it…physical relations with a young lady 10 times a night for a week leading up to the fight.
I commented that yes it was very understandable that that activity would definitely sap most of his energy by fight night.
He told me: Nah it wasn’t the sex that sapped his energy…it was the glass of rum he drank and the spliff he smoked after each session that did him in!

The old ones are still the best.

When Tyson KOd Holmes.... Larry later claimed that he would have won the fight except his arm got caught in the ropes and blamed Tyson for it, and that's why Tyson was able to score the last knockout and win the fight. Can't even man up to know when you've been beat! Well Larry, let me break it down for you. You already had been knocked down TWICE in that same round (I really do enjoy that first straight right to Larry's head, so satisfying to watch him go down like that). Not to mention, he was getting ROCKED with power shots all the way up until his final KO. Geee.... I wonder why your right arm was outside ring? Think it might have gotten caught because by that point you were essentially out on your feet? It was YOUR FAULT LARRY that you got your arm caught in the ropes because you were basically dead on your feet ny that point.

You’re right, I remember in the clip Galento saying “I had him down twice!”. Brain still rattled.

The faces of some of those opponents after facing Louis - Galento, Braddock, Godoy etc….they looked like they’d been attacked by a gang of thugs with lead pipes.

Tommy Farr had 4 cuts on his face, a broken nose and a broken finger.
Louis chopped his opponents up without a flicker of emotion.

I don't get why he felt the need to do that. He can be real proud of his performance in their third fight. Yeah, he lost, but he showed he's every bit the warrior as guys we idolize for that.

I absolutely agree, what he did that night won't be forgotten. He didn't need to excuse himself, he put on what I feel is a tremendously exciting heavyweight championship fight that showed the heart of two of the divisions most mediocre and or boring champions. I rate them both significantly higher after this third fight.

Manny Pacquiao saying he had blisters on his feet because of the socks he wore ….is the reason he got a draw with Juan Manuel Marquez

Marlon Starling arguing that it didn't actually happen.

Although eventually the loss got changed to a no-contest, making him correct in the eyes of the record book.

To be fair he still didn't know where he was when interviewed and couldn't remember? I think that was just after he was knocked out after the bell?

    Could be wrong tho.

    Spot on JT.

I understand telecast time limits and contractual obligations but seriously, some of these guys are still literally concussed when the arm chair interviewer shoves the mic in their face.

A bit of as and when common sense would be nice.

Cosell wanted to interview Ali after the first Norton fight when there was clearly something up with Ali’s jaw which Howard knew and identified himself during the fight. Angelo Dundee gave Howard the “Don’t argue”. Haha.

Also, how could we forget Golota stuttering and speaking gibberish in his dressing room after the Tyson fight..his mind still mushy.

Andrew was maligned for quitting but then the extent of his injuries came to light……and you still had some arm chair warriors saying “So what, you should never quit.”

    Yeah? Go f*ck yourselves, LOL.

You're right, JT. He was totally dazed still. Interview shouldn't be held against him.
