Does Benn's failed test cast a shadow over his Father?

Nigel Benn is one of my boxing heroes, been a massive fan of his all my life.
I recall in the documentary about the McLellan fight, McClellan's team claimed they had blood samples of Benn and they tested positive for steroids.

The accusation was clearly bull**** but one does wonder, why did they come out with this, were they hearing rumours at the time that Benn was cheating?

I know Benn did miss out on any post fight blood tests, prior to this incident I had no suspicions, after all he'd just been through a life and death battle with a ferocious fighter, now I'm not so sure.

It's hard to believe that Nigel didn't know his son has been cheating, maybe Benn put his son on a cycle he's had before?

They say you should never meet your heroes, my opinion of Nigel may well have just been lowered now, a real shame.

 

No, nothing to do with his father, kinda like saying if the current England football team act like bellends at a nightclub, it casts a shadow over the 66 winning team.

 

Not really because I’ve always assumed that Nigel was on the gear.

 

Are you claiming that Nigel probably didn't know about Connor taking PED's, I'm struggling to accept that, your comparison is nothing alike IMO.

 

I refuse to believe that Nigel didn't play a part in all of this.

Not really. But the indifferent video response he put out did make me raise an eyebrow. I would expect a lot more emotion from him in that situation.

 

The other thread about the Essex underworld, for which it wouldn't be hard to connect Benn Sr from the 80s/90s, got me thinking. Benn said at the start of Conor's career there was only one outfit he'd allow the son to train with, and that was the Matchroom gym (eg. Sims). Nigel was managed by Ambrose Mendy who himself did a stretch, and Nigel never ever denied being on all sorts of gear during the late-80s peak, and openly said one of his worst performances was through over-training in the gym (the legit way?). All makes you wonder.

Exactly. Look at the roid heads he was hanging around with, plus all the other drugs he was open about taking. Never had any doubts myself. Would be shocked if McClellan wasn’t as well…

 

Is this not similar to Tiger Woods pumping all those women all over the world then his caddie denied he knew anything when it was impossible not to know.

None of them in Team Conman Benn come out of this well at all.

 

Of course not. He lives in Australia and has nothing to do with his training, nutrition, supplements, management etc anything…nothing.

 

Can I be the guy who once again says, accept that 99% of athletes are juicing and all fake righteous indignation every time there’s a public adverse finding among their peers. It’s a business boys and girls.

 

He was living with Conor the whole camp and with him during all the training for the whole thing.
