Well that’s the job of a free press surely? If there’s any wrongdoings or allegations of misconduct then it’s their job to expose this? Yes?
I feel like Eddie and his team around him don't really grasp how much damage they've done to themselves, their reputation, the trust fans had in them and to other boxers looking on from the outside. It's exposed a really nasty greedy and dare I say it, sadistic side to everyone that we all knew was there but it's been blown wide open now for Matchroom and Hearn Everyone thought of Matchroom and Hearn as the new age promoters. The ones looking out for the fighters. The ones who always pay on time. The ones who work for the fighters and the ones who would always do right by boxing. Affer this fiasco. Really?
Well summarised. It does feel like they've massively read the room wrong. They're obviously emboldened by previous cover ups and thought this would be business as usual. To be honest this will die down soon enough anyway so maybe they're right.
I had no illusions about their morality, it's the lack of judgement that's surprised me. They must've realised there was a big risk the positive test would leak, so to press ahead anyway and then double down and try and stare down the BBBoC seems foolhardy. Maybe it's a sign that their position is more parlous than it may seem. If they're not managing to sufficiently move the needle in regard to DAZN subscribers there may be some break clauses upcoming that are impacting on decision making?
Probably. They announced themselves to great fanfare as the saviours of boxing. Now they're hawking YouTuber fights.
I said in one of the other threads that I reckon this will be the moment that will lead to Hearn gradually packing boxing in and handing things over to Smith. He’s alluded to it in interviews over the years and his failure to dominate the US like he predicted he would will surely have a demoralising effect on him. Benn was being built as his next biggest PPV star as well. AJ nearing the end of his superstardom too. I reckon he will go into football ownership.
yeah but matchroom pay for VADA testing on behalf of boxers when they dont need to as it isn’t recognised by BBBoC Benn had passed his UKAD but failed on VADA which is what matchroom push for in additional, independent testing That cost additional money. And it was Chris Eubank Jr who agreed for the fight to go ahead. And he was there right up to the last two days in shape despite knowing about the failed test weeks before.
I'm not checking 70 pages and 1046 posts to see if this has already been posted. But yeah... Awkward. This content is protected
I think you're making the opposite point than intended. Matchroom do what you say, but appear to ignore the findings if they're not suitable, for purely commercial reasons. The boxers may well have wanted to proceed but it's hardly showing a duty of care to them just blindly agreeing to that. It's the promoter and the Board which would have to insure the fight so they're ultimately the ones that have to choose.
Really? I didn’t know the health of the fighters was the promoter’s responsibility when all parties have all the data and information on hand regarding adverse findings and medical advise. Eddie’s job is to matchmake, promote and provide a platform for the fighters to do their thing. But from his own account he does want to build a promotional business that works with clean fighters hence the additional VADA testing, but in this case both boxers wanted to continue the fight so who is really at fault? Doctors were consulted and yet Eubank still wanted to continue. Why is it the promoter’s responsibility to look out for the health of fighters? When the public got wind off it there was backlash but equally there were punters calling for the fight to continue. Ultimately Eubank Jr wanted it despite any concerns from his camp and family and doctors.
Your points stand up but there is a moral and ethical side to it also. The promoter has to bare some responsibility for the safety of his fighters this is boxing not tiddlywinks. He can't be there monitoring a fighters health, that's on the team but something like a failed test, the promoter should 100% be thinking of fighters safety.
