Ah man this made me cry, Wilder is a good guy.

The pair of them looked to be really enjoying that hug. Bob even goes in for a second helping. Then they both go back for number three.

In fairness to Wilder, I think what he could never wrap his head around was the smack, especially as it progressed into bouts II and III.

As far as Fury was concerned, it was just business, postponing the amicable relations to promote the fight and get into the right mental space to deal with the threat of a guy who was bombing rivals out with an unerring nuclear right hand. He was always predisposed to shake hands and be friends at the end of it, whatever the outcome of the bout(s).

For the more simple-minded Wilder, the gamesmanship and verbal assaults reached a point during the second promotion where it precluded any possibility of a resumption of their friendship when compounded with the brutal and unthinkable (from the perspective of Wilder, who never expected Fury to dare to walk through his fire and try to chop him down) nature of his defeat in that return bout. As he saw it, the beating he received was the actualization of all the barbs and putdowns Fury had issued and not given a second thought to.

In terms of the emotional dynamic, setting aside the style matchup and the in-ring events of the rivalry, Fury is the Ali in the situation and Wilder is a kind of less noble Frazier.

Fury was the one who was wronged in the first bout and he was a total sportsman afterwards giving Wilder plenty of props and even mocking AJ afterwards as a cherry on top

The 2nd bout Fury was totally zoned in for the whole promotion there was almost no shenanigans from him unlike the 3rd bout where he felt like he needed some sort of edge coming off a horrible camp. I saw no mania from him and not much depression although he was depressed after the bout. Wilder picked up the smack talk trying to get under Fury's skin and Fury just sat there ignoring it, many people said Fury was shook because he was much quieter than normal. He told Wilder exactly what he was going to do nice and calm and guess what Wilder clearly took it onboard because he was the one who had a panic attack before the bout even began.

I always liked Wilder and always will
Saw one of his early fights in Chicago 10-12 yrs ago, always will remember that

He's a man, lion heart. Hard to find these days.

Got Ko'd by Fury and came right back like a lion to avenge it....and almost did! No step aside money, no build back fights, straight to it and brought everything he has.

Can beat anyone in the division not named Tyson Fury (and in retrospect I think he DID in that first fight)

I would pay to see him knockout AJ and end his career

Highly suspect. That was uncomfortable to watch.

And Wilder is a joke. All humble in victory but bitter in defeat. Says it all.

I'm not criticizing Fury, rather identifying a difference in psychology between the men, but how you tell it is not how I recall it. Mania and depression being by the by, Fury had plenty to say for himself throughout the build-up to II, and Wilder was taking it to heart and retaliating (which is why the big cans and the vow of silence appeared for the build-up to III, in an attempt to avoid biting again).

''I'll come to your backyard, baby. I promise you that''

    Liar

''I promise you, when you do step in the ring, I will baptize you!''

    You couldn't baptize a baby

Three baptisms and numerous broken promises later

    I do remember this, though;
More specifically, I recall many saying he was just showing up for a paycheck based on the first press conference, where he had enough to say, but delivered it in the disarming, matter-of-fact style you mentioned.

    (With those commenters in mind, I wrote this on the morning of the fight;

"It should be clear by now that Tyson is not coming to Vegas with a mentality of having one foot out of the door. Those who suggested as much couldn't have learned a darn thing about him up to this point. Fury means business, there will be no half-assing a fight of this magnitude.")

Words went back and forth after that January presser, though, including one dig in particular that Wilder seemed to take to heart, i.e. Tyson's talk of having introduced him to big-time boxing. The bombast may've been toned down in the second promotion, but Fury's words were no less cutting to Wilder (probably moreso).

Not like Fury though thankfully. Now there's a guy who doesn't mess about.

I know it's a bit awkward to watch lol, but this is the Wilder I became a fan of. Think he went a little dark side there for awhile lol, but glad to see him at least back in some positivity.

Hey man it's just like Deontay wilder said "if you think someone is a bum get your bumass in the ring then." Truer words could not be spoken. Wilder is as real as they get! And just like a politician, philosophies can be changed! Boxers make bad comments some times. It's called a mistake lol. I appreciate Deontay wilder man, if this is his appreciation thread then let it be.

Wilder has always been an entertainer. He let the character play him for a while though.

Wilder lost pretty well! 99/100 fighters would have given up on winning and gone into survival mode at some point during Fury 3. He doesn't do survival mode, didn't take step aside money, he said some crazy **** but that doesn't change what happened in the ring!

Everything about these 2 is weird bro.
    I'll translate:
Wilder -- I'm sorry bay-be, did daddy hurt you out there, I was just tryin' to handle bizznezz, like they say the grass always greener in the
other barn, but 2 birds you can't separate with a bush.
Helenius -- I'm sorry too I should've been there for you, and I will never let that big bad Fury get that close to you again and hurt you.
    And they cried together......
Wilder -- At the end of the day, til' this day, we are kings, and no one will ever catch another body between us.

I respect wilder as a fighter but as a man I think he is a total POS, he's not a "good guy". He is a total racist and a hater, so are his fanbase. Fury was nothing but nice to him, and he was a world class POS to fury, making wild accusations and this and that. His ex coach mark breland would 100% agree with what I just wrote.
