Always good to hear a good opposing view. I think you mean "wasn't" where i have changed in my quote.
One of the few that unavoidably rang true for me was actually made by a winner: Larry Holmes proclaiming in a snot-filled, congested voice that he had a cold after the Mike Weaver fight. He was so sick he sweated off and had to have his trunks replaced.
But Rich, I have a great behind (so the lovely ladies tell me). That should mean I have great excuses. No? Is my logic flawed?
True, as it turned out, it was better for Ali to lay on the ropes and be well prepared to defend and brace for whatever got through. Taking some of those shots from Foreman whilst on the move and not optimally set and postured to defend - could’ve resulted in far more damage, particularly if caught mid ring without any support.
Ofc Ali builds his myth up to say he orchestrated "Rope a Dope" but like u said he could not keep up his movements like in the late 60s. I'm sure some of those body shots by George also didn't help either. Credit to Alis durability but if he could've circled George all night I'm sure he would've.
Maybe I will introduce you to 83 year old Lara Parker, maybe she will say the same thing Pugguy. Ha Ha.
People always make excuses for failures, I always admit my shortcomings, no excuses for them. I do not believe in excuses, either you have it or you don't.
Clay comes out to meet Foreman and Foreman starts to retreat, if Foreman goes back an inch farther he'll end up in a ringside seat. Clay swings with his left, Clay swings with his right, Look at young Cassius carry the fight Foreman keeps backing, but there's not enough room, It's a matter of time till Clay lowers the boom. Now Clay lands with a right, What a beautiful swing, and the punch raises the Mummy clean out of the ring. Foreman is still rising and the ref wears a frown, For he can't start counting till George goes down. Now Foreman is disappearing from view, The crowd is going frantic, But radar stations have picked him up, Somewhere over the Atlantic.
Err..I’m good. She might be into saggy buns now….I surely cannot accomodate her. The 1960s version of Lara is now forever frozen in my minds eye. And that’s how she’ll stay. LOL.
I didn’t even know they cut a record of that stuff. Played backward you might’ve heard: Sonny will quit in the 7th…Sonny will quit in the 7th…
