Out of interest Goo is there anyone you actually favor over Wilder beside Fury?

Not having a shot mate, you copped a bit of flak the other day and i'm certainly not piling on. Lucky you have mellowed over the years!

Deontay asks himself "Am I dreaming....am I in a coma or have I really gone back to 1973?" He walks into Cus D'Amato's gym and demands to know where his phone is. Cus comes out and says "A word in your shell like pal.........this is my gym and I'm the boss!" grabbing Wilder as he says it.

George drops Deontay in the first and is surprised when the Bronze Bomber rises offf the canvas and makes it to the opening bell. In the second Wilder reciprocates by dropping George. Foreman gets up and immediately jabs Wilder who takes a step backwards into the ropes. Foreman pummels him with everything he's got and the referee steps in at 2.30 secs to pull Deontay out of there.

Foreman is complimentary to the man he's just knocked out saying that he's the hardest puncher he's faced.

Foreman technically, jab, footwork , ring savvy is twice what Wilder is not to mention strength. Wilder is a one trick pony while George could blast with either hand. If you think Fury manhandled Wilder ,,,,,,,,,

Wilder would turn into Christopher Williams real quick. Don't wake him.

All these comments about Wilder being scared are absolute rubbish.

    1. Their are only 3 people who can conceivably beat Wilder in the 90s, and I'd favor only two of them.

    2. Wilder has more than proven he's not a coward. He literally chased a third fight with the guy who brutally knocked him out, and went as far as taking him to court to settle the deal.

I know we all hate Wilder but let's keep things remotely realistic.

One has to wonder just how much worse people think Wilder is then Ron Lyle to be mince against Foreman. I think a wide open punchers pair is almost always a split on the victor.
Deontay lands down the pipe it’s down goes Foreman and vice versa.I think Wilder would be able to be about the fourth best guy. Better then Norton but with lesser results against guys like Ali and Holmes. His size, toughness and power would still be valid, more so even. I would want to see him fight Bonavena.
He would not be worse off then Shavers or Max Foster or even Quarry or Patterson in the 70s if matched right.

Well, the trouble is we have a lot of evidence to suggest standing in front of Foreman and fighting is as valid as any other strategy. Ali didn’t box and move that’s for sure. Jimmy Young was infront of Foreman and even rocked Foreman in the trenches. Wilder isn’t a third the boxer of these men but he is as good as Lyle… The only evidence of being ran over is in the fight with Frazier and Norton. Norton was what we all know him to be and Frazier was washed up and lasted 8 totally shot years later. I don’t think he’d do worse then Lyle and would improve on his results even in a loss.

Those guys shorter then him were like an inch or so shorter give or take. Those guys taller then him were nothing to even consider as threats even for a green George Foreman.

With all due respect Journeyman92, The version of George Foreman that I created this thread was about the 1973 version, this is one year prior to Zaire Africa and his 1974 title losing bout to Muhammad Ali. On Jan 24 1976, Foreman fought Ron Lyle, this version of Foreman already had his ego shattered by Ali. The 1973 version of Foreman had yet to touch the canvas, he swung for the fences, always smothering his opponents. In my own opinion if Wilder had fought Foreman in 1976 and beyond it is possible that George may have traded knockdowns with Wilder, boxing does sometimes involve the mind along with the body. It is kind of like younger posters who associate 1967 Ali with Ali of the 1970's, both are very different fighters, the same can be said of Wilder vs Foreman, both versions of Foreman are different. Just adding my two cents with respect to you.

I think @Journeyman92 had some really good points, but I sympathize more with Richard's take in terms of time frame. I'm sure Deontay would have held up a bit like Lyle post-Zaire, but not against 1973 George.

I understand Frazier had a lot taken out of him via FOTC and wasn't quite the same dude when he met Foreman, however at the time he was undefeated and generally considered like Iron Mike was in the 80s, unbeatable.

Norton handily beat a mere 30 year old Ali then gave him a hell of a fight in their second (despite in my eyes closely but doubtlessly losing). Five years later he gave a totally prime Larry Holmes the fight of his life. I don't think either wipe out can be dismissed...George in some ways was a template for Iron Mike in terms of sheer domination. He wasn't anywhere near a great, classic boxer, but he had an incredible high puncher's IQ and knew things about setting guys up to be slaughtered that it seemed most if not all before him didn't know.

Again, though, that was an excellent post, J-man.

Who said Wilder would be scared/ Wow is that doing the man a disservice. He gets a full 10/10 for courage and heart.

Ali beat Foreman to the punch with straight rights, absorbed a huge beating hardly anyone else could & I believe said he was out twice on his feet-& he did not just stand in front of Foreman & trade, without his masterful covering up & deflecting + rolling with punches he would have been out of there.
I did not see Young rocking Foreman & was a great defensive fighter, but I have never watched the whole thing.
He admitted that at one point Foreman could have knocked him out with a feather, but this Foreman was not nearly as good in effective aggression, had his style messed with & was too timid...

And although I never read this, I gotta assume it is likely that Saddler's insane habit of having Foreman come in light & dry hurt his performance & led to his dehydration-induced Visions of God afterwards.

Frazier was declined not nearly shot against Foreman.
For most of those 8 years before his final fight Frazier was retired-over 5 of them.
