Would take a lot out of both especially Bowe. I see him leaving his prime right after that fight. Not sure who I can get to gauge a match up but Peter can definitely stop Bowe in the later rds. He is way too easy to lure into a brawl so that leans into Peter's hands. Not an easy match for either.
How does it "lean into Peter hands" to brawl with the bigger , faster and much greater insider fighter? What you say doesn't make a lick of sense. Unless you actually believe Sam Peter is better than Evander Holyfield. You are , for whatever reason, posting stuff you don't believe is reality.
Peters wasn't even an inside fighter. He didn't throw combos and his hand and feet were too slow. One guy here is one of the best combination punchers and inside fighters in HW history. Yet your argument is the guy who was useless on the inside holds the advantage... What !!??? What do you mean who did Bowe face like Peter? You ask as if Peter is some sort of anomaly. Reality check : he was worse than Eddie Chambers.
Never did I say Peters was a good inside fighter. I'm just not sold on Bowe but I do think he is the best inside fighter at his size. Still someone like him with leaky defense against a big puncher is still not something I'm confident in. Again, who has Bowe fought like Peters for u to have this much confidence in him? I would rate Bowe higher but that doesn't mean I automatically think he "pastes" Peters like sum ppl on here put it. Just my opinions, ur free to disagree.
Peters was no better than Jesse Ferguson and its debatable if he hit harder than Herbie Hide. Il take Hide since he had the speed to accompany his power. Peter was slow as a sloth. Had cement feet and didn't move his head an inch. Bowe pouches right through the guy. Its a one-sided battery
Prime Bowe beats the breaks off of Peters at any point of his career. Bowe had atg ability at his very best. Peter was a good contender in a below average era. One - sided beating by Bowe.
^This No one's saying Peter is some amazingly skilled heavyweight or that he should be favored. But Bowe never really beat any reputable punchers other than the cruiser sized Hide and Cooper (who were both relatively easy to stop and didn't last long against Bowe). Now if you factor in Bowes leaky defense and tendency to brawl, this could be a very ugly matchup and by no means would it be easy for Bowe.
As others have stated Riddick Bowe never fought any of the real dangerous punchers of the 90s, so it would be interesting to see how Bowe reacts to getting hit by Peter. Although i still see Bowe winning fairly convincingly in the end by KO, Bowe is a superior fighter and a level above Peter. Overall there might be a few hairy moments for Bowe early on because of Peter's dangerous punching power, but the class of Bowe would tell in the end before the 10th round IMO.
Since when is Peters a reputable puncher? His right hand bounced clean off James Toney for 24 rounds. He couldn't put a dent in Chambers and never once troubled glass chinned Helenius. His power is massively overrated. Add to that he neither has the skill nor speed to land anything. Bowe would have to stand right in front of him with his hands down to be at risk of getting stopped.
common Dude. Are you really saying that the aged version of Ferguson who Bowe fought in 1993 was better than Peter in his prime ?
Mercer was injured going into that fight. And had recently been outboxed by a 42 year old Holmes. . And Ferguson had lost pretty regularly over the years.
