If Roy Jones Jr steps in as a blast minute replacement for Billy Conn, is it curtains for Louis?

    This sounds the likely ending.

Louis, after coming from behind on all cards, catches up with Roy in the latter stages of the fight. Jones has the skill to avoid a lot of Joe's big punches but I can't see him doing it for 15 rounds, and can't envisage Jones taking too many of Louis' power combos. And I can't see Roy stopping Joe.

A question re Louis-Conn. Their first bout was during Joe's prime but am I right in saying that Louis came in a lot lighter than normal so as not to make himself look too much like a bully fighting a light-heavy?

Really a shame how many people today under sell Louis now a days. Louis by KO. A reflex fighter with crap fundamentals isn't beating Louis.

The official weights were Louis 199 1/2 to Conn 174 1/2 (25 lb weight pull).

I can’t vouch for the veracity but I’ve also read that it was reported that Louis was actually 204 to Conn’s 169 (35 lb weight pull).

Prime Roy still got caught at rare times against ppl MUCH less quicker who also didn't hit as hard as Louis. Late rds ko. Louis had not only great combos but ATG timing too. He will find that chin and turn RJJ into a tempur pedic customer. I say this as a Roy fan too but I ain't delusional.

Louis has a difficult first 2 rounds coping with the speed difference, but he eventually adjusts and times Roy. Once Roy is in the corner, Louis would light Roy up like a Christmas tree with a plethora of painful punches. Roy wouldn't know what hit him and goes down In a similar fashion to a falling bookshelf with a loud thud in the 3rd and doesn't get up.

James Toney, who plods more than Louis caught Jones Jr over 150 times in what's considered a shutout for Jones Jr. If Louis can touch Jones Jr ~150 times then one of those combos will be final for sure.
    Joe Louis by KO.

So are we using a time machine, with nobody knowing anything about RJJ? His speed and reflexes would be so shocking. He might well pull it off.

Of course, if Lous catches him with a good combo or two.... I re-watched Louis v. Baer last night. Even though I've seen the fight plenty of times before, I was still struck by how deadly accurate and fast those combos are. He was landing 3-4 hit combos where each punch lands absolutely perfectly flush with full power.
