Reflexes? Foreman didn`t have the head movement to evade Joyce`s constant jabs or combos, plus Joyce throws a lot of body shots, as did Foreman.
Joyce is more proven against bigger fighters with longer reaches, Foreman fought fighters with smaller dimentions.
1. Foreman did have quick head movement, but because of his choice of style he typically applied it to duck under hooks, mainly because... 2. .. he was a dedicated long guard user, with Saddler's extended rear arm as a trademark in his first career. The very same system that was supposed to constantly check his opponent's jab. A jab ain't stopping Foreman, unless it's a sneaky outboxer with creative angles throwing it. Joyce's is good, but nonetheless relatively slow and I have a hard time seeing him consistently using it for anything else than space control under the set of circumstances created by Foreman's stylistic choices.
Who did Foreman beat who was his own size? It's the way Joyce dominated Parker and knocked him out. No one's done that to ironed dome Parker.
The points obvious though. Foreman beat smaller guys. Joyce is much bigger. Size can easily negate skill at the top level.
A big unknown: how Foreman would fare fighting guys that aren't smaller than him. Size can often trump skill. And I'm not even sure if Foreman is as skilled as Joyce
It's not always the size of the dog in the fight, sometimes it's the size of the fight in the dog and 70's Forman was a baaad man, the Sonny Liston of his era. See Jack Dempsey vs Jess Willard
Who has Joyce beat that's anywhere close to an ATG like Foreman ? It's not like Parker is the benchmark for how Joyce would do vs ATGs. Which alot of people seemed to have done jumping on the backwagon. Good performance vs Parker ? Yeah. But am I ready to say Joyce beats Foreman because of a good performance vs a decent Heavyweight like Parker ? No sorry. Joyce gets hit alot and despite showing a good chin, has not faced any elite level punchers yet like Wilder, Joshua, etc. Let's see how Joyce does against one of them, and then we'll have this discussion again.
Norton and Lyle weren't significantly smaller than him were they, if at all? (Genuine question, Im not much of a boxing historian). Neither made it past the 6th round, lasting a combined 8 rounds against Foreman. I understand neither are as big or as durable as Joyce is, but still, to me it seems that, how a 15 fight professional with 2 decent wins and having faced maybe one real puncher fares against an ATG heavyweight and one of the most powerful punchers literally of all time, is a drastically larger unknown than how Foreman would do against a fighter bigger than him. I think history tends to show that whatever hype is surrounding a fighter in his first 15 fights against sub to mid tier opposition, usually tends to get exposed when that fighter starts fighting top tier opposition. But I do get where you all are coming from. Im not blind to the possible advantages Joyce could possibly exploit in this fight, I was merely commenting on how its interesting to me is all how someone with 15 fights is being favored over an ATG.
I saw Foreman slip shots but the amount coming his way would be something he hadn`t seen before, Joyce is relentless and has an amazing engine.
