Was Chris Eubank, Michael Watson, Nigel Benn and Steve Collins the 90s version of The Four Kings?

With the exception of Steve Collins boxing everyone but Michael Watson was this the closest British equivalent of The Four Kings in 1990s and 2000s? Or both the best British Middleweight and SuperMiddleweights of the time incomprable in their own way just as The Four Kings were?

They are a decided step down from the originals. Still very good and very entertaining but not crossover superstars the way the 80's guys were.

Yep, agree with John here, whilst not on the same level as such but still got tons of respect for em.

The big thing was they fought each other. Often multiple times. The big 4 just did not ever have the rematches we the boxing fans wanted. And it always seemed to take forever to even put the big fights together, unlike their uk counterparts.

If we're simply talking about British fighters, then maybe. If we're talking about the Middleweight and Super-Middleweight divisions as a whole, then no.

In certain eras, The British Championship at middleweight and SMW has often been “world contender level”.

I regard the Benn Eubank Watson era as being for the British championship in all but name. No matter that Benn had a WBC belt and Eubank had the WBO belt…the real world champions were Micheal Nunn, James Toney and Roy Jones.

So the rivalry was only ever over who was the best in the UK.

whilst the Ring Magazine had both the middleweight and SMW titles listed vacant during the entire times either Benn and Eubank held belts, if memory serves, the Ring never rated either of them any higher than number 3 in the world. which was about right.

But the rivalry was good. High profile. Good quality. They certainly made World Championship money out of it.

I get what your saying. I suppose you could look at it that way yeah. Not in terms of greatness or anything but the key concept is there.

No it was the 80s/90s version of Benn, Eubank and Watson.

Oh and Collins. He didn’t fight Watson though and only fought a ghost of Benn.

Yes it was the level of rivalry and the interest in the sport that these boxers generated not necessarily how great they were.
