Joyce's engine is one of his greatest assets in this fight and in general, I agree. On the other hand I question how comfortable would Joe be unleashing combinations against best version of prime Foreman. It's one thing to relentlessly pressure Parker (who has no power whatsoever compared to the crackers of the division) and a fully fledged ATG puncher who threatens to respond in kind. The tempo of this match might be slower than usual, unless Joyce believes himself to posses a truly uncrackable chin. With Foreman's expert ability to dictate terms of engagement by strategic employment of long guard, distance management, framing, clinches, and widely understood control game, it's actually hard to take away from him the control of the bout (tempo etc.) Granted, size and reach help here. Nonetheless, Big George is one of the greatest ring generals in boxing history for a reason. That and power combined might demand from Joyce a more strategic approach.
Lets not forget that Joyce was hurt to the body by BRYANT JENNINGS and visibly hurt for several rounds from that shot. He isn't invincible.
A very well thought out prognosis, and of which I concur, Joyce would be pushed, pulled, and manhandled like never before, Foreman had a way of making most other HW of his time appear small and helpless, I feel the George of the Frazier/Norton fights would inflict a lot of punishment on Joyce, and can visualise a mid fight stoppage with Joyce upright but defenceless, after putting up stubborn resistance. stay safe buddy.
Joyce would KO him. Joyce has a granite chin, Foreman doesn't. Joyce would grind him in down and get him out of there.
Can not believe the Hype on Joyce....Jennings went 12 rounds with Joe Joyce.......Jennings was knocked out by Luis Ortiz...and people here saying he would beat an ATG Heavyweight.....God give me strength.!!!
Hey I can see you arguing either way, but you do not know Foreman well if you say that about his chin. He was exhausted against Ali by maybe the smartest fight by possibly the GOAT (& much illegal clinching & pulling down). He was exhausted & dehydrated when beaten by Young. Above you can see how Joyce was rocked for a good while by a lesser fighter. Old Foreman took punishment beyond what Joyce has ever seen. Foreman had a superb chin.
Foreman vs the 6ft 6 inch Jack O'Halloran. Is probably the best example of prime Foreman vs a much bigger man. Clearly Foreman's jab is key, he always had a very heavy, accurate jab. He showed some head movement, plenty of lateral movement and when he got inside, knew to use his head and place it on his opponents, throat/chest to create space to throw. Body attack clearly too would have been a big part of his game plan. A key thing to note is how much faster Foreman was. In his era he was the big slow guy but in the modern era his hand speed would actually be pretty decent, not fast but hardly slow and still way faster than Joyce. This content is protected
It's distressing that possiblity of Joyce being more skilled than Foreman is being mentioned in this thread. Makes you think that people really DKSAB. If being trained by the likes of Sonny Liston (sparring partner), Sandy Saddler, and Archie Moore, as well as wining Gold on the Olympics of '68 against grizzled veterans (Trela, and Chepulis) after a year or so of boxing doesn't give one a clue as to how talented and physically gifted Foreman was, then he effortlessly passes the eye test if you know what to look at. His only relatively underwhelming period was post-Zaire when he was mentally in the gutter, and was adjusting his style with a new principal trainer in Gil Clancy.
The people who say George Foreman only won back in the day was because he was bigger than everybody else are either liars, or misinformed. Roy "Tiger" Williams, Lou Esa, Chuck Wepner, Jack O'Halloran, Gerry Cooney, Larry Middleton, Al Jones, Leroy Jones, Gerhard Zech, James Youngblood, Orville Qualls, Jimmy Abbott, James J Beattie, Ollie Wilson, Ernie Terrell, Jeff Meritt, Bob Hazelton, Ismael Ruiz, Lee Canalito, and I could go on and on. Every person I named was at least 6'5 up to 6'9 1/2. Also every person I named weren't great fighters but every 6'5 plus fighter today isn't great. In fact the guys now are far from great. What is even more funny is when people try to spend things to fit their agenda. They will tell you Joe Joyce weighs 270 and Foreman weighed 220. This is funny because Foreman weighed 230 as a 19 year old and lost weight for a while before putting it back on. Joyce in his 20's weighed under 230. Joyce is pushing 40 and gained a lot of useless weight. What is even more funny is Deontay Wilder is considered the hardest punching current heavyweight and he only weighs 205-210 naturally. What is even more funny than that is Andy Ruiz was heavyweight champion recently and is around 6'0 and morbidly obese, Alexander "Steroid Cheat" Povektin is 6'1 and was heavyweight champion recently. The current heavyweight champion is the 6'2 195-200 pound naturally Usyk. You want some more ? Joe Joyce was knocked out twice as a 27-28 year old fighter. You might say but he was a amateur then. So? What does that have to do with his age? He was a grown man with a grown body and got knocked out with heavyweight gloves and with head gear by Sergey Kuzmin who is a good puncher but nothing special. Usyk was also push a 27 year old Joyce around the ring and beat him. A prime Foreman and a old comeback Foreman would smash Joyce.
