Exactly the reason I would favor Mayweather in a 15 round fight. His punch output is far lower. He gets more done expending less energy. In his later years he also proved he can lay along the ropes and either dodge or block onslaughts of punches from younger, more active fighters. I can't think of any fight where I've seen him gassed by the end.
If anything, I would see Chavez burning himself out, not that I'm saying Chavez had stamina problems, but between the two I certainly favor May to be the fresher, more accurate fighter down the stretch

 

My credibility to the likes of you is irrelevant. I laid out perfectly Mays advantages over Chavez and how I think the fight would play out, and even sprinkled in some examples from previous fights for good measure. We're not talking about Greg Haugen or Frankie Randall here, or some factory worker from Guadalajara. Mayweather is a different animal all together.
The only real question mark is the 140 pound weight stipulation the OP put forward, which admittedly Mayweather doesn't have an extensive body of work at, but I think he whoops him at whatever weight, it makes no difference

I see Chavez doing the same thing to May Jr. As he did to Camacho Sr.
May Jr. Simply wouldn't have the fire power to keep Chavez off of him.....
The shoulder roll works great with head hunters, but not so well against accomplished and relentless body punchers.
Theirs no one May Jr. Faced the entirety of his career that was close to Chavez in ability to breaking the body down.
And that would be the key.
May Jr would be forced to defend his ENTIRE strike area consistently, not the sporadic "afterthought " body attacks he in generally faced his career.
At 140 I believe Chavez wins this easier than expected.
May was more a" pot shot " style as he went up in weight. That wouldn't work well against the relentless attack of Chavez prime vs prime.
Now at Jr. Lightweight, When May Jr was a much more complete fighter?
I like May's chances much more.

Floyd is not going to shake Chavez and JC will nullify his speed with crowding and infighting.

JC takes Floyd out in 14 rounds or gets the decision in 12 rds.

A well thought out post, I was thinking Chavez would do better at 135 but after reading this I agree, especially the relentless body attack comment. Floyd would be in serious trouble in a 15 round 140 affair with Chavez. Floyd might even be ahead after 10 but then the ring gets smaller and smaller and Floyd begins to take a thrashing.

Camacho was five years removed from his prime.

Still he landed a lot of punches, especially when he made a last stand in the 9th round

Prime Mayweather is faster than faded Camacho and uses his defense and ring smarts to shut down Chavez.
