We’ll call it the Pat Lawlor Award.

Because he’s the nexus of this thread.

Lawlor, in 1990, had a 13-1 record. Then he beat Wilfred Benitez (split decision) and Roberto Duran (no mas-ed it with a shoulder injury in the sixth) in back-to-back fights.

That catapulted Patrick into some nice paydays and a lot of losses — to Hector Camacho, Vinnie Paz, Terry Norris, John David Jackson, etc. … and a return match with a very old Duran.

Who are some other club fighter sorts who have multiple notches of that level on their belts? It’s a pretty nice claim to fame for an honest prizefighter, I’d say — bet Lawlor would be a good guy to drink a beverage with at the neighborhood pub to hear his stories.

Maybe not the perfect fit but Fat Boy Willie Meehan held a pair of wins over Dempsey.

    Jeff Horn over Pacquiao?

Haven’t thought of any multiples comparable to Lawlors yet but feel there’s something lurking in the back of my mind yet to consciously surface.

EDIT: Lou Nova over Baer twice. Depends on how you rate them both but ultimately Lou over Max was more brag worthy than the other way around I guess.

Paddy Doherty had 2 wins and 2 draws against rhe young Benny Lynch. They were friends but also dancing rivals.
At his peak but probably already suffering from alcoholism Lynch dropped 2 points decisions to Jimmy Warnock a tricky Belfast southpaw.
Lynch had beaten Jimmy's old brother Billy and after the fight the older Warnock had suggested Lynch fight Jimmy.

Willie Joyce had 2 wins over ATG Ike Williams although it has to be said Joyce was a top ranking contender

Woah Barkley wasn't an average or below average fighter. He wasnt an ATG but he was without a doubt above average even when only compared to other world level guys.

    Oliver McCall.

He beat Lennox Lewis's *** and also decisioned Larry Holmes.
I believe in back to back fights if I'm not mistaken.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it

What about Haglers half brother, Robbie Simms.
Barely mentioned nowadays but despite his 38-10 mediocre record he has wins over Roberto Duran, Iran Barkley and Doug Dewitt despite being only a contender. Thats still a good accomoplishment imo.

    Amd what about Jimmy Young?

He beat Foreman and Lyle twice and arguably should have won vs Ali, Shavers and Norton and been a two time world champion had the judges been more favourable .

For a 57-18 guy those are some great names.
