Wow this thread is getting cray cray lol.

For the newbs, I would try to focus more on the style matchups & strong and weak points, etc. Monzon was as patient, calm & focused a fighter as I've ever seen. Those are some of his strong points, etc.

And this mantra of 'oh he fought smaller dudes' is funny - We are talking ATG welters, very special fighters here. And loads of ATG fighters beat loads of smaller ATG fighters, happens all the time....well, it used to, anyway lol. You don't see a whole lotta best vs best these days.

This is nonsense. One sided beating is all that’s waiting for Martinez in the ring with Monzon.

Martinez was very entertaining to watch and he does have that highlight-reel KO of Williams - but, overall, it is a fairly plain Middleweight record, from which a good deal of drama was generated, competing against ordinaries. Beating bigger guys (e.g. Pavlik/JCC Jr) who are compromised at the weight or just not very good (or both), has questionable value.

But Martinez was a heck of a competitor and I have no doubt that he and Monzon would have made for a thrilling contest, for however long it lasted.

There you are again, demonstrating your own distinctive brand of stupidity. You learn nothing from your comeuppances, instead, you show that same brainlessness that indicates that you're a bad match for this forum,...you're good for being ignored, if anything, and to better utilize your talents, I'm sure that there's a super heroes type of forum somewhere that you would fit in better,...debates about whether Superman or Batman qualify as the GOAT,...or "is Flash greater than Green Lantern", or "is the Hulk more powerful than Thing from the Fantastic Four"....all debates geared for immature, comic book minds....like yours. You spark my ire also because you miss the big picture here.....meaning, love Monzon or hate Monzon, ...it dosent matter really, I couldn't care less...no one is saying you have to be a fan or a hater of ANYBODY....Carlos Monzon or anyone else....as they say, "it's a free country" ok? Did you get that? What gets to me, and it's something that I'm sick of..and thats uneducated, ignorant posters...that's you...posting bullshlt lies and inaccuracies about a fighter...any fighter...and you keep on making this forum a dumber and dumber place as a result. You have no inclination to learn anything or improve your researching abilities, so what the hell good are you anyway?? You hurl that spastic, ******ed "fanboy" epitaph over and over, yet your previously labelled "appalling boxing ignorance" still remains.
PS. Martinez wouldn't see round 8.

I think Gorilla's size and height advantage would make a stoppage likely.

Not sure how anyone thinks that Martinez could win this against a master like Monzon. Monzon breaks down and punishes Martinez down the later rounds. It'll be similar to the Benvenuti fights.

Martinez not even close to the same league as what Monzon was. As much as I admired Sergio for what he was able to accomplish, a matchup like this would prove very bluntly how different the quality levels can be between champions.

The ones on here actually picking Sergio Martinez...????? Ok, it's a free country, but I don't get it at all.

    Monzon by brutal stoppage.

A resurgence of that poster that we had early last year El Gallo Negro or something, using a different name, Soul Saliva. Either that or an uneducated troll, criticizing Muhammad Ali too for not serving in a war that we did not belong in the first place, we were never attacked, typical racist warmonger. Next thing you know, this poster will start to refer to Ali as Clay, then claim to be a Gomer Pyle Marine. That poster I mentioned made a lot of enemies here and didn't last long.
