Although Vazquez wasn't the most exciting fighter, I will never forgive Haymon for that photo. That's no way to treat a professional fighter, much less a champion. As a Harvard Law graduate, I'm sure Haymon would acknowledge that McDonald's is not an appropriate place to sign binding contracts. He could've at least had his cronies take Vazquez somewhere along the lines of a Texas Roadhouse.

Crawford's biggest problem was negotiating without a promoter. He had to bring in his own people who didn't know what they were doing and Haymon didn't trust Crawford enough to give him a huge guarantee.

Why?

It's not a corporate merger with a million moving parts involving hundreds of thousands of employees and shareholders. Boxing is unique like that.

And Crawford not having a promoter actually simplifies the process. No network disputes.

There's the fighter guarantee (purse) and then the backend (percentage of PPV buys, concession sales, merchandise sales, etc.).

And then there's the top billing, second on the scales, second to the ring, and all that other A-side stuff.

Gaymon and Spence clearly didn't want the fight and introduced fight-killing roadblocks.

 

They didn't respect him enough to set up a formal meeting. Hell, if not over a nice dinner, then at the very least a swank hotel lobby. But I'm guessing it was a pressure job with a time limit for Vazquez to take whatever they were giving him.

I dont give a F, they are both to blame. If they really wanted it they would make it happen together regardless. Hagler and the likes of Leonard made it happen regardless, both wanted it. This is why these new school guys can never be compared to those greats of the past.

Those of us not blinded by any type of loyalty to any fighter or his team, knew he was a scam artist from the very beginning.

 

Vasquez losing a decision does not mean he has been screwed. Not being paid is how fighters get screwed. Chances Vasquez made a career high pay day that’s what Haymon does. As for Bud it’s a shame because he screwed him self.
