I've seen Archie Moore listed at around 5ft 10-5ft 11 but by the time he fought Floyd Patterson he was 203 years old and only the size of Yoda.
Both of them got into the ring under the bottom rope.

Oh gee, that’s some funny sh*t, right there!

HOWEVER. Speak ill of Arch, you MUST not.

The famous ear wiggler still resides among us, all be he an invisible force.

The similarities between Arch and Yoda are more to do with their respective wisdom.
    Disrespect no meant I
Archie was like the Stephen Hawking of the boxing world

I’m an Einstein man myself but your analogy is perfectly understood. Poor old Arch, for all his yoda like knowledge, he couldn’t tell that whipper snapper Cassius Clay a damn thing. Ali was a force unto himself.

I see a wide range of heights listed for SRR, but the lowest listed anywhere is 5'8".
I just doubt that he is an inch under that.
It is hard to get heights exactly right, but if you are correct, Hagler even at his shortest listed height is clearly taller than him.
And taking the shortest height listed for Duran, Ray is only an inch taller.
You are a great poster, but I think you are mistaken in this case.

My belief is that if Archie, and other boxers, were born 25 years ago, they wouldn't have needed to box.
Ezzard Charles picked up the Italian language for instance.
Most Brits, me included, struggle with English.

    That is fair enough.
Actually Liston was originally a bit over 11' tall.
He came from remarkable genetic stock, in large part due to the assemblage of earlier lineages he carried-& remarkable mutations to become the first Homo Sapien.
Again, 337,642 years old by the time he fought Ali.
Do not be surprised if he in due time we find out he was never even a 'lil bit dead either.

So at first glance you would think "wow, he lost almost half his height".
But really it is absoutely remarkable that he shed only 1/4" every millenia.

A vestige of this shrinkage is that his arms & hands seemed disproportionately large.
But normal humans do not lose overall length & related matters, but they live so briefly you do not notice anything.
But Liston was originally kinda T-Rex like, but when his altitude was sufficiently reduced, then everything else seemed much larger in comparison.

You need to take no notice of listed heights altogether. I guarantee Ray is absolutely under 5’9”. He’s nowhere near 5’10.

maybe 5’8” on a good day.

We need to look at listed heights if only as a starting point for comparison.
Even if we ultimately dismiss them in most cases.
It is useful to see how commonly heights are distorted-& by how much on average.

It is possible that Ray is only 5'8", but that is the lowest I think plausible.
footwear, stance, level of surfaces-& how guys tend to shrink over time can effect perception.

I have a photo of myself with Ray. We were both wearing street shoes, his a lot more expensive than mine, and he cannot be 5’9”. In person he looked the exact height of people around the 5’7”-5’8” mark. And in relation to me in the photo ray must be about this..and I got my height checked on one of those new BMI machines and I am “6ft 0.7” in bare feet.

I always thought he looked too well built to be a 5ft 10 welterweight
The only problem i have with imagining Liston at 11ft tall is that he by the time he fought Chuck Wepner he didn't have huge ears as most old people do with a forest of hair growing out of them.
And yet i have it on good authority* that he was Tutankhamun's minder.

Yes you are right. Just by looking, When you know the weight of a fighter, the shape of them tells you what height they are. And Leonard is the Perfect proportion for a welterweight.
