Definitely. Quarry-Shavers was very lively until Earnie dropped his right hand on Jerry.

Don King turned his back on Shavers for losing.

So, me and the boys caught the 19 bus from Old Street to Tottenham to go to our favourite dance hall, the misplaced name was " The Royal " one thing it wasn't was royal, still the records were good " Spirit in the Sky, Sugar Sugar, Heard it through the Grapevine, How can you mend a broken heart, the oldies will know the who sang what, the other main attraction was it was banged out with nubile young girls, the massive hall was scented with " Estee Lauder youth dew " competing for airspace with " Hi Karate " or Brut.
Decked out in Mohair suits, Ben Sherman shirts, we thought we were the bees knees, the lovely girls were robed in either " Hot pants, or mini skirts, what's not to like ? .
On this particular night a rather cute blonde ( hot pants since you ask ) caught my eye, so I waited my time until a slow one came on which was Al Green's " Sha, la ,la " then pounced, well not pounce, just a polite " fancy a dance " Shakespeare eat your heart out, well the cute little blonde fell for my charms, and we had a slow dance and a smooch, later on that eve, near throwing out time, we met near the exit, " would like to come back for a Coffee " she purred, well whats a boy to do, back we went to Edmonton from memory, and had a rather cosy night, the next day ( oh yes ) I woke with the hangover from hell and looked at her clock, it was 8-45 !!! boy was i late for work, run down her stairs half dressed, hailed a black cab and said " Islington please and don't spare the horse " then I noticed a paper on the back seat next to me, through me blurry , bloodshot eyes, I could just decipher " ALI BEATEN BY NORTON " mind you the events before sort of compensated .
    stay safe guys.

Add me to liking your 5th Beatle comment.

The record producer George Martin was often referred to as the 5th Beatle.

Could you imagine that lot, Ali, George etc. in Beatle wigs? What a sight!

If I was among that crew, I’d bags not to be Ringo but being the smallest, poor Frazier would probably be the default choice.

Joking actually. Underrated Ringo was and still is cool. In truth, he was a very good drummer and much sought after when the Fab 3 picked him up.

They kicked out their drummer Pete Best to make way for Ringo.

There were claims Paul and John didn’t like the attention Pete was getting from the female fans - but the bottom line was that Ringo was the better drummer, and, like a metronome, he kept the band very tight - a very important role.

Hai Karate! LOL, I remember that one. It pushed right though to the 80s. Great post Mike, very enjoyable read.

Excellent point. Those two great fights appropriately bookended an incredible era.

Hahaha I was more of a blue stratos fan myself of old spice.
My auntie in Scotland sent me some aftershave cum flyspray called sabre that was red but surprisingly successful at attracting the girls.
Well that's how I remember it anyway ;)

I liked Norton but remember that time well ... he was absolutely robbed against Ali in the third fight but this stuff about him not training properly after is crap ... he looked like a monster against Bobick, he fought a terrific fight against a prime, spoiler Jimmy Young and he went an extremely hard 15 with a prime Holmes when Larry gave him a better fight than Ali ever did ..
