I'm not overthinking that side of it. I put more store in the senior fighter's drive and hard mentality than his age in this case. I expect a tremendously motivated Beterbiev with legacy on his mind. That's if the fight happens in 2023, of course, and not to say there is no sell-by date on his chances.
I'm going with Bivol, he's the better boxer & hits hard enough to keep Better Beef honest. Bivol UD. RJJ & Hopkins, at their best at LH, would make Beterbiev look silly, though it might be tuff in spots.
Bivol has mental weakness when it comes to Beterbiev. He said in the interview, that when they were in the same team, Beterbiev was leader of the team and Bivol looked up to him like an idol.
sure all those unbeatable Americans magically disappeared as soon as boxing became global sport. Nor were they dominant amateurs when facing international opposition . Joe calzaghe slapped them both and Beterbiev would KO them.
Calzaghe beat them when they were old, I'm sure you know this? Beterbiev is a tough guy no doubt, but he is exactly the type that Jones & Hopkins beat pretty comfortably, and I think Bivol may even shock a lot of people and make it look fairly easy. Also, as much as you keep going on about Calzaghe, I think Joe could've beaten Beterbiev. I think smaller fighters that are far superior can whip guys a division or even more above them. The 8 real divisions, anyway.
This is the problem with some boxing fans. They are all on board the hype train. I'm not saying Bivol is hype because he's been in my top 3 favorite boxers since he debuted on HBO (which was the first time I saw him fight), and I knew this guy was amazing. As I said in a previous post, I used to imitate him. So I'm not saying he's "hype." He's the real deal, a P4P number 1 guy at some point. But I remember that a year ago, these same people saying that Bivol is a "demi-god" are the same people that had said he was trash, that there was no way he's beating Canelo. Boxing fans are some of the worst fans in sports. Anyway, Beterbiev has feasted on guys similar to Bivol. He fought guys like Bivol when he was a little kid, and he kicked the crap out of most of them. Bivol is a different animal, but Beterbiev is very familiar with how to fight that style. He cut his teeth on that style in the Russian amateur programs. Beterbiev has some advantages that Bivol doesn't have. The only problem with Beterbiev now is his age. He just recently suffered an injury, and he has another fight coming up. With luck, he'll stop Yarde as he did Smith Jr to avoid some wear and tear. Do not expect the Beterbiev fight to look anything like the Zurdo fight. Bivol bossed Zurdo around the ring numerous times. Bivol well not set foot into mid or close range with Beterbiev. That fight will be won by staying on the outside, at range. Bivol, out of his own mouth, said: "If you fight Beterbiev in close, you have little to no chance." So we know how this fight will be fought already.
Calzaghe would struggle to overcome someone with Beterbiev's pedigree If old Hopkins and Jones could knock him down imagine what prime Kovalev, Gvozdyk and Beterbiev can do to him?
Calzaghe always got up off the canvas to emerge victorious. If one of those guys knocked Joe down, I'd expect the same.
Time is the question here, will it be a factor or not ? I wish promoters would come to an agreement (I know it's wishful thinking) and give Yarde a nice pay out to sit out and watch the big boys go at it with a chance to fight the winner. Oh well... I still think it's a 60-40 for Beterbiev basing myself on the Gvozdyk fight. AB took the legs out from him with those body punches, Gvozdyk had nothing left in the tank in the 10th. You could sense it during the fight that AB was the dominant male in the ring, even if Gvozdyk was doing well you could feel the outcome. Bivol gets alot of praise for his skills and he deserves it but AB doesn't because of his power. I feel his power overshadows his boxing abilities and fans write him off because of it. Can't wait to see it and hope time is not part of the equation.
Bivol has the ability to keep Beterbiev at range. Beterbiev's has a very unique style in the way he gets his shots off. It's almost like he needs you immobilised, and with very little torque, he just pulversises you with every shot
Joe was past his prime when he moved up to 175. His hands were shot to bits and his punch resistance had diminished a lot. He stood up to way harder shots, and in quick succession too, in his prime This content is protected This content is protected Carl Froch BEST PUNCHER Robin Reid: He hurt me the most with a single shot. I can’t say George Groves because he caught me square on in the first fight, when I left my feet behind me. That was a heavy knockdown made worse by my balance being off. Also, after his fast start dwindled, I came on strong, so I can’t say Groves. I remember Reid hitting me and saying, ‘beeping hell, that hurt.’ Jermain Taylor had me down, but that was more of a sharp shot. Robin Reid could really bang, and in my opinion he deserved the win over Joe Calzaghe in their fight. That said, Calzaghe had to be tough to walk through the right hands he took from Reid. ''Froch does hit hard but again not the hardest puncher I've been in with ROBIN REID hit harder when he was in his prime.'' --Tony Dodson Richie Woodhall BEST CHIN Calzaghe: He was a tough geezer. I wasn’t a devastating puncher; I was more of a worker, and that showed against Calzaghe. I hit him many times but nothing affected him Mikkel Kessler Joe was also awkward and effective. And he could take a punch. I would say I hit Joe with some of my hardest shots ever and he took them. Carl is more a hard hitter but he’s slow. But Carl doesn’t respect anything. Even if you hit him really hard he will still come forward.
Hes also never been put down by a guy like Kovalev or Beterbiev. Because he hasnt fought anybody like that.
