In 1970? I think we’d have to favor most young contenders over Liston at that point. Especially if there’s any truth to the claim that Foster was getting the better of him m sparring. Any good version of Liston would be a colossal favorite over Mac Foster however.
I heard that Foster beat Norton too in gym wars when they were in the army. There is also one article about that.
Foster had Liston down and hurt, but not out. Foster landed a left hook and Liston paused - either hurt or adjusting his headgear, depending on who you choose to believe. Foster's manager, seeing an opportunity, yelled at him to press the attack and Foster put Liston down with a right. The following day they sparred again and Liston reportedly "gave Foster a pretty good drubbing". https://ibb.co/MfPQ543 https://ibb.co/kDQbpsC
But he still knocked Sonny, and Dick his trainer later confirmed this story to be true. I know that Ray Patterson knocked Liston cold in sparing, who was unlike his brother Floyd, a fearless man. It just confirms that Liston chin isn't that great as everyone claim to be.I heard that Jerry Quarry beat Foreman and Norton in sparing too, I don't know if it is true story.
Again, that's wrong. Liston was floored by Ray Patterson in 1966, he certainly wasn't "knocked cold".
Nope. All contemporary reports describe Liston as floored, not out. Photographs show him down on his haunches, then moments later back on his feet, looking none the worse for the experience. https://ibb.co/0jF3nvk
According to Quarry he sparred a Young George Foreman for a few rounds and Foreman was the strongest man he ever been in the ring with. At no point in time did I ever hear that Quarry beat Foreman in sparring.
I heard that Foreman said something also about his younger days when he had a sparing with Quarry. I heard that Quarry beats Norton and Foreman few times.
