Are you sure? I thought that was Chuck Wepner’s nickname besides, of course, his other nickname, El Bleeder.
Sad news, used to read Ring mag up until around the early 00's. I bought an issue just for fun around 5 years ago and it was very expensive! I used to read every boxing & wrestling mag I could get my hands on. Anyone else read The Wrestler or Pro Wrestling Illustrated or any of those back in the day?
LOL, yes Coop being the senior really owns that tag. Imagine how many pints of blood between them were lost during their careers. Slight tangent, here’s Little Aussie Bleeder Norman Gunston interviewing Muhammad Ali just prior to the Rubber in Manila. A meeting of two great minds, LOL. This content is protected
Wepner had somewhere between 50 and 500 stitches in his face depending on which account you read, courtesy of Sonny Liston's left jab. Probably beats anything Cooper had in a single fight. Ali was on top form in that interview poor old fella.
I used to scour every Wrestling magazine on the newsstands way back then for articles and especially pictures of my favorite female wrestler Vickie Williams. That was the ONLY reason that I'd ever even glance at a wrestling mag.
I used to read Pro Wrestling Illustrated and other nerdy mags like that in my teens. As you can imagine, I was quite a hit with the ladies…
I still read Ring Magazine and have for 40 years. I had a subscription for a year that ended last year. This is extremely bad news. 2 years ago I bought all the issues from 1951. I loved KO, World Boxing, and Boxing Scene magazines as well.
The Ring, KO, the amazing World Boxing (My favorite, with KO) Boxing Illustrated , all gone now. I spent countless dollars on all of them from the 70's thru the 90's I gained so much knowledge from them, not just the fighters of the era, but the entire history of the sport...... Sad to see them all gone.
I really loved when Burt Sugar was in charge of Ring Magazine. Great journalism and great covers. KO magazine in the 80's was a must read as well.
I think one of the last copies I purchased Nonito was being touted as a "prospect". Just not a great medium at this point.
