1986 - James Bonecrusher Smith - The one who blitzed Witherspoon to claim the WBA Strap via first round TKO. VS. 2022 - Deontay Wilder - Lets just use the one who fought last month and sent Helenius to the shadow realm. Bonecrusher only fought one way, he came forward. Does that make him made to order or does he hurt Wilder and get him out of there?
Bonecrusher fought one way .... until Tyson came along. At that point he learned the fine art of holding. Wilder wins this against a timid Smith.
Pick em fight not sure why Wilder is such a big favourite here, both men can punch and Bonecrusher is arguably physically stronger. Bonecrusher also has better wins than anything on Wilders resume with wins over Witherspoon, Weaver, Bruno. And lastly Bonecrusher wasn't a smaller Heavyweight from yesteryear. He was like 6'4 220+/230+ he'd do just fine against modern Heavyweights.
Very surprised Wilder is the favorite here. According to most on here, he’d lose to any fighter with a pulse.
Wilder rocked early, has the proven guts to take Smith into deep waters. Smith gets counted out in 10.
Bonecrusher has gone into deep waters himself and won, he won a slugfest vs Ribalta and come from way behind to beat Bruno.
Bonecrusher became Boneclutcher when he faced Tyson, many people feel he would do the same to Wilder and get savaged.
Sure, Smith was a very good fighter with an excellent punch! And he had heart...he tried to hang in there when Holmes started knocking him around late in their fight. I just see him getting caught very flush against Wilder and things ending soon after. Just me.
Has Wilder been in with someone who hit as hard as Bonecrusher ? Maybe Ortiz ? But he's ancient. I can understand your reasoning, but you don't really know how Wilder would react getting hit by a banger like Bonecrusher. I don't think Bonecrusher is a great Heavyweight, but he has power and can be very dangerous early on. I'm just quite surprised people think this is a formality, when Bonecrusher has beat better names than Wilder has. And has the power to make this a debatable fight.
These are all completely valid points. I just don't see Smith making it, but that's just me. He was a fine fighter, for sure.
I'm not saying Wilder wouldn't win, I was just a bit surprised everyone thought it was an automatic win for Wilder. I think this would be a dangerous fight for Wilder, yeah Bonecrusher fought a terrible fight vs Tyson. But he did have other standout wins in his career vs Weaver, Witherspoon, Bruno. He also beat Weaver, Witherspoon, in 1 round.
