Compared other ATGs I would put him in the category of Vernon, Cotto, Camacho, Monzon, Marquez, Benitez, and G-man: Really good fighters but a step below Great. Sure he is slick, crafty, top 5 switch hitter all time and an above average IQ, I just think e falls short compared to other ATGs like Manny, Floyd, Hearns, Oscar, Tito, Pernell, Canelo, Chavez....etc.
The Ring Magazine had Monzon ranked #11 in their 80 Best Fighters of the Last 80 Years feature in 2002. Even if he's slipped down since which he likely hasn't or won't have much if so, Terry would be awfully lucky to be ranked in that kind of company or even make their 80.
Doesnt have the resume to be called a great fighter. Passes the eye test against lesser opposition for sure. I cannot in good conscience call Crawford a great and give arguments against Fury being one.
He's got great skills, but to be a great fighter you must fight the best competition to see how good you really are. He's failed to do that so far in his career up to this point.
Crawford is all about the eye-test IMO, and in that respect he looks great. But his resume simply doesn't stack up to great, and he hasn't found a dance partner to elevate him - and shows us what his ceiling really is. For nearly 10 years Bud has been touted as a potential ATG - but right now, it's still that - unfulfilled potential; no disrespect, but Porter, Postol and Mean Machine don't really put Bud in the 'great' category. Rergardless as to the why's or the wherefores as to why he's not fought Spence yet - or even Pac before he retired - the lack of those fights has really impacted Crawfords resume and legacy. NB - when you look at the 4 Kings, regardless of their individual greatness, they all elevated each others resume's by not ducking and facing each other - with well nigh all of them being veritable classics. Crawford & Spence might say that they each don't need the other, but how much would Hagler's resume drop if we had never saw that awesome war with Hearns? Or the controversial loss to Leonard? Maybe my favourite fight of all time Duran v Leonard, the Brawl in Montreal? Those are the stuff of legends!
Better resume and he actually challenged himself. Crawford has Porter but Canelo has like 4 Porter's on his resume (Jacobs, Smith, Saunders, and Plant). P4Pp I don't even think Crawford would beat a Canelo
Canelo would slaughter Crawford.. and let's be honest there's not even much size difference between them despite the division's they fight at because Crawford probably walks around at 180lbs +... Clen hasn't wasted his career either he's fought everyone and anyone and more often than not has beaten them, he challenges himself... their resumes are light years apart.. Canelo shits all over Crawfords career & weight grifting penchant for fighting midgets.. the exact opposite of what Canelo does. They aren't even close.
The named opponents. Even if they were old or past prime, the name value of his opponents are hold by far more weight than Bud’s. Bud’s best wins are Shawn Porter, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Ricky Burns. Let that sink in that this guys was actually ranked #1 P4P before.. I think he’s a phenomenal fighter but he hasn’t had the opponent selection to prove it. His resume at 140 is beyond horrible. Dulorme, Dierry Jean, Hank Lundy, Postol, John Molina, Felix Diaz and Julius Indongo. And again this guy was ranked #1 P4P aftet this run.
