What did Buster Douglas get up to when he was the King?

Absolutely. It changed things totally in the heavy division and that had ripple affect s that include Bowe s fights with Holyfield, Foreman s fights and even Bruce Seldon, Mccall and Bruno winning version s of the title.

 

From what I've seen from interviews Douglas had to put up with the long count BS lawsuits from Don King which distracted him from training for his next fight. Could be a factor in him losing the title but the main reason has to be his loss of motivation. He had an interview with Tyson present in HBO studios the week after their fight as well.

There's a book on both Tyson and Douglas called "The Last Great Fight", has anyone read it and recommend it?

Buster also did the 42 to 1 documentary, it mostly covers his career from a child up to the Tyson victory.

Yes, I have that book and I actually loved it. Been several years since I read it but I remember it being a great read. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the 42 To 1 documentary, is it pretty good?

 

Backing up a bit- in Tyson's last book his trainers old him how hard Buster was running early AM .. Tyson did not care . I watched the fight recently and it was as not as close before the knockout. I was rooting for Tyson.

After that Buster had the parade, went on every talk show and ate at every buffet in Ohio.II could not believe he blew up over 290 in between fights. Especially against Evander. He made his money and cashed it in.

 

Great I should check out the book then. I recommend the documentary, you learn a lot more about Buster compared to what the media does with him only talking about the Tyson fight.

The guy not given much credit is Giachetti. Man, that guy sure loved training the jabbers. What a job he did coming in with Buster. W/o him, he loses the Tyson fight.

 

Wait….I’m confused. Giachetti never trained Buster Douglas. Buster’s uncle JD McCauley and John Russell trained him.

Sega released a re-skined console version of the boxing arcade game Final blow for the then fledging Genesis, rechristening it James Buster Douglas Knockout boxing. It was one of many games Sega developed with celebrity endorsements as the draw, because they didn't have the well established IP at that stage that Nintendo had. If I'm not mistaken, by the time the game was released in the United States, Buster had already dropped the belt.

 

Buster Douglas epitomizes "be careful what you wish for." After winning the heavyweight title he ballooned up and almost died. He saved his life by getting back in shape and having a humble second career. You can't find happiness with fame and fortune...

 

Ring King was awesome no NES. So was 4D Boxing on PC -- I remember trying to make my own Sonny Liston.
