What did Buster Douglas get up to when he was the King?

I remember buying that game for almost nothing as a kid because Buster was already irrelevant.

Evander Holyfield's game came out soon after and put that one to shame.

 

Buster Douglas is to boxing what Vanilla Ice is to Hip Hop. A very brief yet on top of the world of yet crashing the hardest way possible.

 

He did get sued by Donald Trump at one point.

 

For what?

 

I think it was part of Don King’s lawsuit when Buster wanted to get out of his contract with Don because King had turned on him to try to get the ‘long count’ enforced and get him stripped of his title after the Tyson fight.

King, after that tactic failed, wanted to do an immediate rematch with Buster and Tyson, offering Buster I think $13M — the fight to take place in Atlantic City with Trump’s casino as host (same arrangement as Tyson-Spinks, with the fight at the convention center but Trump Plaza as host and I think the structures are adjoining with a walkthrough to the arena).

Steve Wynn, owner of the Mirago casino in Las Vegas, offered Buster a two-fight deal for $50M, the first fight being Buster-Holyfield.

So Trump’s side of the lawsuit was to protect his interest in hosting the big rematch by supporting King’s claim that Douglas couldn’t escape his contract with King. There are more complicated details (for instance, Buster claiming that King was contracted to do four fights with him the previous year but only did three when Tyson-Ruddock was postponed so they just paid Buster expenses … he was also due $40K to fight I think Ken Lakusta on the undercard) but that’s the gist of it.

 

Buster did dot the “I” at an Ohio State football game, so he had that going for him.

Remember being really disappointed in his fight with Holyfield. He busted his ass to slay the dragon and become champ, only to lay an egg.

 

Breach of contract I think.
