One of the silliest things i see on this board, and it is increasing, is how if such and such a fight was shorter so and so would have won. It is disingenuous in the extreme. If the fight is shorter the whole dynamic and pacing changes and it's a completely different fight.

You've managed to go even further however by actually INCORRECTLY claiming Cooney would have won if it was 12 when the sheer fact of the matter is that Holmes led on all three scorecards after 12. Do you actually fact check all this rot you come out with?

At this point i'm not sure why others get into long debates with you when the simplest of facts totally escape you.

It should be a draw because I scored 115/115 for both.At worst It would be Split decision.
Would Cleveland last that much?I don't think so.
Did ever Cleveland stopped someonr of Norton caliber in 1st rounds and did he went 12 rounds with Ali or Liston?
    Nope, I don't think so.

My what a treasure you are. You've been caught out so now you say you were talking about your score yet you still stuffed it up as you said Cooney would have won but now you say you scored it a draw. You can't make this **** up.

Did Williams ever fight an old Norton? Did Cooney ever go 12 rounds with Ali or Liston?

At this point i will leave you to others who cherish pain a lot more.

Did Williams fought anyone good as Norton?
    I don't think so.
Did cleveland fought Foreman?I don't think so.
Holmes was almost as good as Ali, would Cleve last full 12 rounds like Cooney did?
    Highly doubtful.
For some people Cooney was winning fight, for some Holmes.
I scored a draw.Again would Cleveland even draw with someone like Holmes?
    Chances are very, very low.
And about Norton, did Cleveland ever beat someone of Norton's caliber let alone stop him in 1st round?

Are you really calling Williams a can crushed in a COONEY thread?

Then you have the audacity to bring up Coney’s win against Young.

Fair enough but their are several caveats.

    1. Shavers was somewhat of a wildcard. Cobb's win over Shavers would was replicated years earlier in Shavers' prime by the 20-24 Bob Stallings, so I don't see that win as mightily impressive.

    2. Many (though probably not the majority) think Norton lost to Cobb including seemingly Norton himself when he apologized to Cobb and said "You kicked my ass tonight".

    3. Norton had just been dropped twice and beaten over the top rope by Scott Ledoux of all people when he was saved by an early bell. He'd quite clearly seen better days.

If Williams had beaten this version of Norton, he'd have been accused of padding his record by guys like Long Count.

Jimmy Young won his next 5 fights in a row winning Ring magazines comeback fighter if the year. Learn your history

Did Williams ever beat someone good as Jimmy Young or Norton?
Even the older version of some fighters good as them?

You're really praising Young for his wins over names like Marvin Stinton, Tommy Fischer, Tommy Thomas, Gordon Racette and one semi name (who many think didn't lose that fight) while labeling Williams a "can crusher".

Forgive me for thinking you have an agenda here. ;)

I’m not the one that gave him comeback fighter of the year. Ring magazine did. And yes Cleveland Williams was a can crusher. For number of fights he had his impressive wins list is awfully thin.

Well you gave him credit for winning 5 fights after the Cooney fight. Had Williams beaten those exact fighters you'd accuse him of padding his records.
Please name all these mind-shattering wins Cooney had. I'll settle for any top tenners besides a shot Norton.

I gave him credit because Ring magazine awarded him the comeback of the year award. Gil Clancy was high on Jimmy Young too in that fight with Cooney. Said he looked great.
Cooney had less than half the fights of Williams but demolished Norton in 90 seconds a better win than anything Williams has and he stopped Young. 1 of only 2 ppl to do it. Oh and he took a peak ATG 13 rounds in a great fight. In two fights with Liston, Williams didn’t last 5 full rounds combined. Cooney only lost to 3 hall of famers. No so for Williams.

:lol So those no name fighters he beat automatically become world class because Ring Magazine gave him a meaningless award (and no ranking)?

    Give me a ****ing break.

Ring Magazine also said Williams was the 4th best fighter in the world before he was shot in an era where Ali, and Liston two H2H monsters were both active.

Fortunately, we have eyes and can see he was anything but

He was also about 20+ pounds more than he was in his victory over Lyle and ten
Well no that's not true. Norton was ranked number 10 (very generous) when Cooney beat him. The ranked men Williams beat were far higher in the rankings

A washed Young 10-25 pounds overweight from his best conquests. a drug addict and someone who was 3-4 in his last 7 fights. Again, had Williams beaten these versions of Young, and Norton you'd accuse him of padding his record.
One of the most disingenuous arguments I've ever seen.

JT already explained the problem with this logic so I'm not going to waste my time. Anyways, did you find all these ranked men Cooney beat to support your position that he was better than Williams who you labeled a can crusher? I'd love to see it.
