On this day of Nov 15 1962, Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) stopped the Ole Mongoose Archie Moore in the fourth round. Your thoughts?

Even at the advanced age of 47 Moore was still reasonably solid. The fight before Ali, he held future light heavyweight champ Willie Pastrano to a draw and earlier in the year he TKOed heavyweight contender Alejandro Lavorante. Ali had no problem with Moore in what was to be the Ol' Mongoose's final legitimate fight.

Moore was still fantastic for his age but Ali was fantastic period.

It was literally a meeting of two entirely different eras between two of the sports greatest of all time fighters. Archie tried the best he could for being at such an advanced age but defeat was inevitable at that point. Hats off to both of these great men.

Moore is the only one to face Marciano n Ali. Always feels weird when I rarely c this fight for some reason. Moore definitely had an interesting career I needa read up on. One of the best technicians on film.

Yeah it is like how does one fights so long to fight 2 champs from other eras. Had the Cards been played right in Moore's favor, he could of added Louis to that feat in the late 40's. Jack Sharkey is also other guy that fought both Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis, wonder if there is some guy out there that can claim yep both Sullivan and Jeffries kick my butt.

Maybe? Does get blurry when there's only newspaper accounts as well as how many fights that used to b documented got lost in time. Even with the accounts we r only getting the alleged fight from a certain perspective it can never replicate actually watchin the fight.

Even with lack of film, we do know Corbett knockout Sullivan and Greb beat Walker, yeah it is nowhere near seeing the action on film, But there is accounts and reports on how they played out.

You get some great era bridges when guys fight that long. Like Foreman. Lost his title to Ali, got his next title challenge against Holyfield. Crazy.

As has been said, even though Archie was in his ring dotage at this point he was still a pretty dangerous puncher and a test for the young Cassius Clay which he passed with distinction.

True but it's only clear w a knockout. A decision could always b debated especially depending on politics, hometown favoritism, judge bias, etc

It’s amazing really. Moore is one of the few fighters who have truly seen and done it all. He fought against just about every known style. Was in over 200 fights. Competed against a colossal number of greats. Became both a referee and a trainer. I don’t think anyone knew more about boxing than he did

Very true, he also understood longevity better than anyone else in the sport.

I honestly think that he was one of those people who would have fought to his grave if he could

When I met Archie Moore on Dec 19 1969 at the local Junior High, he to me was larger than life, such a gentle man, he had just built us a Boy's Club in our neighborhood, the same neighborhood that Sonny Liston assaulted two thugs who tried to assail him as the result of Liston winning in a game of cards, both suffered concussions, this happened in Sept 1969. Moore spoke to us very seriously about being law abiding, doing our civic duties, respecting our elders and continuing our education. He even brought a huge truck of Carnation Ice Cream for us in the auditorium also Soda Pop, we watched Archie vs Rocky Marciano from Sept 21 1955 and Ali vs Moore from Nov 15 1962. I posted this before but Archie was a hero to us. I remember looking into the Club that Archie built for us, it had color television sets, a Stereo to listen to records, a Soda Pop machine for refreshments, a boxing ring with all of the training equipment. Too bad in this day and age they don't make them like Archie anymore. It was a big highlight in my young youth.

I remember that fight. Moore thought Clay(Ali) wasn’t ready to face Liston and wanted to slow him down. Moore thought Clay would eventually become champ but was over confident in his abilities.
