Actually, I thought Tammi was his sister. I heard that eons ago and never bothered researching that. Just took a look after reading your post, and read they were thought to be cousins, which also wasn't true.
That’s understandable. An easy mistake. Tbh, it also seems that Terrell isn’t such a common surname. The internet can be great source for information but then there is the idiotic contingent deliberately spreading falsehoods. Hey, I didn’t know Ernie’s real sister was a legit singer who replaced Diana Ross in The Supremes. That was something new to me and cool to find out.
Anyone heard of Paul Thorn the country singer, Very good he is too. A former pro boxer He fought Roberto Duran
Terrific nomination. No, I hadn’t heard of him but looked him up based on your heads up. Though stopped in 6 due to multiple cuts, he put up a gutsy display and even he himself managed to cut Roberto. Not just quoting a description, I actually watched the fight just now. Just two fights later Duran decisioned Iran Barkley. Now Thorn is a highly regarded singer. That’s awesome and not necessarily the substantive career change you would expect after having boxed as a pro. I hope he’s making loads of $$$. Thanks again.
Thanks Pugguy, There are some interviews online talking about his music but always goes in depth about his boxing career too. Have a look mate
I'm glad you guys mentioned Ernie Terrell...I watched him before he fought Ali when he appeared on the Hollywood Palace and sang a couple of numbers with his band(?), accompanied by his own guitar playing.n IMO, he was polished, professional, with a pretty good voice...and a good deal better than the Fraziers and Holmes's in musical ability.
Yeah, I just checked that out on You Tube, Jack Benny hosting. Ernie could definitely sing…pretty cool customer just 48 hours prior to fight time. I originally couldn’t remember his band either (comprised of his sister and 2 brothers). I kept thinking the Knockouts but I know they were Joe’s - anyway, enough suspense - THE HEAVYWEIGHTS. That figures. Lol.
I met Paul a couple of times. He came to our gym for sparring here and there (about a 2 1/2-hour drive for him) and was really nice. Club fighter but not a bad one. Definitely took that as far as he could go and has done the same with his music it seems.
Yes, Terrell was a fine, sophisticated guitarist/singer IMO,and I liked that guitar strumming....and you're right....a cool customer.
HBO tried to portray Michael Grant as some kind of renaissance man because he could play piano, but I’m not aware of him ever playing in public or taking his musical abilities on the road or out to a gig.
I used to play Tyson Fury singing "American Pie" to myself at home. So I like it. I believe that it will seem strange to many, but it is true.
