Canelo planning tune-up in May, Bivol in Sept

Yea Canelo has all the confidence in the world, he's a great fighter but his last fight only confirmed that he's now on the decline and is a tad bit slower than he used to be.

It Could have been an off night, but Canelo style is to counter, and if Bivol is hitting him with fast clean shots it leaves Canelo unable to counter With success which was why when Bivol also pinned him against the ropes, he wasn't able to produce much offense if any at all.

Canelo would have to dictate the pace, and really bring the fight to Bivol to win imo. If he can't find a way to penetrate Bivols high guard it will be a repeat of what happened in May, which is the likely scenario.

 

Let's hold off on the duck talk until Benavidez does something noteworthy. A very convincing win over Plant would be a start.

 

I don't know why people are so surprised. Canelo said on the night of the fight after losing that he wanted to rematch Bivol and he's not changed on that. He was not only embarrassed by Bivol, but it happened on Cinco de Mayo weekend no less which is probably the one day you don't want to be a mexican fighter and lose a big fight that poorly. You can bet his ego was hurt and he's not letting it go until he gets a rematch. If he did I'd be surprised.

That all being said, I disagree with the view that it'd be a stomp. Perhaps Bivol would've stomped the 1st Canelo, but I doubt that would happen in a rematch when we'll be getting an improved Canelo who'll know where and what to improve. He'll almost certainly make more use of the jab which was, IMO, the biggest reason why he failed against Bivol to begin with.

 

Yeah, it's not a duck (not yet anyway). That being said, Canelo vs Benavidez is my favorite fight for Canelo next May if I were the matchmaker.

 

More than enough time for two full cycles with long PCT layoffs between.

As bad as the politics of boxing and the corruption are, the fans are just as bad.

Canelo gets roasted for cherry picking, buying judges etc and now he wants to take a rematch against a guy that schooled him which you just don't see top fighters doing, especially big money fighters and some fools are talking about how they don't want to see it and saying he is ducking Benevidez????? Who the f*** has Benevidez beaten? So he is ducking him by fighting a better and more proven guy who already beat him? How stupid do you have to be to believe that?

I am curious to see how Canelo responds in a rematch where he did nothing well and see if he goes all out to win, or if he pulls a GGG and shows up for a paycheck. I'd love to see Canelo go out on his shield and have Bivol put his lights out. It would be exciting.

It will be interesting to see who the tuneup fight is and whatever happened to the hand/wrist injury he was supposedly dealing with that was going to keep him out until September.

If the focus is a Bivol rematch (rathert than reigning at 168) I would suggest he does his tuneup fight at 175 because he didn't seem to be in his optimal form at that weight last time out. He could use another camp to try to get it right.

 

If he does go with this plan, it would be nice if he fought a decent operator at 175 yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing him against someone like Buatsi.
