I watched highlights of Hearns vs Roldan again, and I forgot how good this fight was. For a short fight it's got a bit of everything. And i think I actually enjoy it more than the more famous Hagler vs Hearns what's your thoughts ?

It's a great fight. Hearns really brought it.

I enjoyed it, it was a good scrap.
That's the great thing about Tommy, never knew what gonna happen with him in there.
I miss guys like Tommy, the characters, the unpredictable.

Hearns was one of the best from the outside but he wasn't immune to being lulled into a brawl. Either it could backfire or that right will b like the hammer of Thor.

Been a while since I watched it but I seem to recall Thomas blasting both Roldan and (even more so) Iran Barkley with some absolutely wicked body shots in those fights. I don’t see how anyone could take his best body blows.

I remember Hearns landed some crunching ones vs Shuler before blasting him out aswell, people don't often talk about Hearns's body punching but its underrated part of his game.

Hearns vs Hagler is mostly about who was fighting then the fight itself which was one sided outside of the first round which still wasn’t 50-50. The cut happened but it was all Hagler. Similar to Foreman vs Ali in the sense that the event was what made it, the fight itself was if you understand what is happening and are ignoring the sales routine surrounding it, a mismatch. Foreman threw a few big ones to keep the crowd saying “oooo” that’s all.
Juan-Hearns was a really good saloon shoot out though, a better fight I think.

He’s all hips when he swings below the neck. It looks prominent and dangerous.

Tommy could rip those left hooks to the body. Hit Roldan one in the pit of the stomach right before the ko punch that convinced Roldan to stay down. And the ones to Barkley right before he got ko'd were brutal

How Iran weathered those to keep throwing back I’ll never know. I double up just watching them.

I too haven’t watched this one for a long time but do remember it as being a highly entertaining and exciting fight. I recall being quite concerned when Roldan badly hurt Tommy, but that ultimately provided as the perfect contrast to Hearns’ later flattening of Roldan. Cool fight.

I think there’s an argument to say Hearns-Roldan is a better fight than Hagler-Hearns but not a greater fight, if that makes sense.

One thing with Hagler-Hearns is we’ve all seen it so many times even the ferocity loses its impact. When I show it to someone who hasn’t seen it, their jaws drop.

When you know Hagler weathered the storm and the cut didn’t come into play and Hearns was going to lose his legs rather than gather himself and rally again, it’s easy to take it for granted.

I appreciate both fights. But I’ll put it this way: if I could go back in time and have a ringside seat to one or the other, I’d take Hagler-Hearns.

Yeah, they don't make fighters like The Hitman anymore,Fergy. We were guaranteed a thriller practically everytime Hearns laced 'em up.
