A lot does get made of sparring and I think people take away too much from it. Someone for example can be at a particularly taxing stage of camp and a young fresh fighter gets thrown in for a spar and has success.... a few years later, the young fighter says he whooped him when they sparred, when really it's not a true reflection at all.
Agreed, which it's why it's poor form from Dubois but also brilliant trolling in the way he recounts it like a naughty school kid. Can't be winning him many friends behind the scenes though.
Do you remember when Joe Laws said that he smashed up Devin Haney in sparring? "Devin Haney, where you at?" I always think it's best to keep this stuff quiet.
