I heard the same thing also. Ali let Brown try to punch him and Brown quit trying after about a minute.
The story Bob Arum related — he was there, this took place apparently before Ali-Brian London which Bob was promoting IIRC — was he took several swings and missed, then Ali hit him (probably not with full force) with a 1-2 … and Jim said, ‘OK, I get it’ and noped out.
Like Rocky Balboa said during the press conference between Drago and Apollo Creed in 1985's Rocky 5, He Would Have Needed A Ladder.
For an seriously ugly (especially after his eye popped out during a car crash) and scrawny guy, Davis sure shagged some fine ass women. He had a life long love affair with Kim Novak. Just goes to show that women are attracted to famous and/or rich men no matter how ugly rather than poor men no matter how handsome.
Jim and Wilt were great athletes, and Wilt even beat Jim 3 times when they raced against each other at a party in LA in the early 60's
There's a terrific photo of that, taken at the moment of impact - you can see the glove compressing as it hits Brown's unprotected face - in Thomas Hauser's excellent Ali biography. In the pic, you can see Ali is wearing dress pants - it was that spontaneous of an event. It was likely taken by Howard Bingham and copyrighted; I can't find a copy anywhere on line.
Lol, funny. Wilt The Hit Man Chamberlain. I hope Sammy can make it to 2 - his only hope possibly being non stop running in and out between and under Wilt’s stilts.
Not a lot of people realise that even a jab from someone like Ali is enough to pacify anything close to a fighting attitude.
I read Hauser's biography, I recall no photos like that. Either I forgot-but it was not many years ago-or I may well have had an edition without pictures!
