Can sometime tell me three must see Dwight Muhammad Qawi fights?

All these guys provided stylistically complementary stuff for him, and allowed him to really shine. Guys like Eddie Davis and certainly Spinks gave him far more trouble of course, as there were added wrinkles to their game.

 

Like Sal said, the Mike Rossman fight was a good one as it was Dwight's coming out party - of sorts. He was really an incredible package in that fight as he showed terrific defense as well as his bludgeoning offense. Secondly, the Eddie Davis fight. A great blend of styles gave us a terrific fight. Thirdly, The Ossie Ocasio fight, but not for excitement. I felt, like most, that Qawi dominated the fight against the fast moving Ocasio, but there was some political machinations going on that was really pushing a Holyfield-Ocasio title fight and the judges made sure it happened. Ferdie Pacheco scored it 10-0 for Qawi - I had it 6-3-1 for Dwight. But again, for what was going on at the time behind closed doors - not for excitement.

The first two are dominating performances, the last one is a back and forth slugfest can't go wrong.

And lastly if you want to see his best performance at Cruiserweight, i'd also check out the Leon Spinks fight.

 

Scar i respect your knowledge but i would certainly not recommend Qawi vs Ocasio, the only thing that fight is good for is curing insomnia.

 

I did put in the disclaimer "Not for excitement" and I did it twice. So I have my absolution. LOL!

 

I always thought his rematch with Saad and Eddie Davis showed him at his best. Not even Holyfield could have stood up to him then

 

Yeah i know but i think if anything, he should read up about it rather than watching it. The fight was unbearable for me i gave up after 6 rounds.

 

I admit to never seeing the Crous fight. Was it any good?

 

Sal, I wrote this up 2 years ago. Clearly I wasn't impressed.

After watching Dwight Qawi against Eddie Davis I still had it in my head to watch a little more of the Camden Buzzsaw. Well, I didn't choose the best one, let me tell you. I watched his title-winning cruiserweight match with South Africa's Piet Crous. Here we go.

Round 1: 10-9 Crous
Round 2: 10-9 Crous
Round 3: 10-10 Even
Round 4: 10-9 Crous
Round 5: 10-9 Qawi
Round 6: 10-10 Even
Round 7: 10-9 Crous
Round 8: 10-9 Crous
Round 9: 10-9 Qawi
Round 10: 10-9 Qawi
Round 11: Qawi KO's Crous

Total through 10 completed rounds: 97-95 Crous (actual scores: 98-96 for Crous and 2 Even scores of 96-96 and 95-95)

To begin, Crous was strictly a boxer. I mean no pop at all to his punches. And Qawi was fighting like he was underwater. That is how slow he was getting his punches off. If Crous had anything at all in his shots he might have been able to do something to this version of Qawi, but at least he boxed steadily. It is hard to believe that the following year Qawi would be engaging Holyfield in a life and death 15 rounder. At least when he got the taste of blood, he went after Crous and finished the job. Not a fight I would recommend for action, though.

 

I shall not bother then!

 

Glad y'all bring up Saad he's an incredibly underrated fighter. Very good but he never was gonna have the longevity. A drawback w those exciting styles but limited in defense.

Qawi also looked great against Spinks.
That fight was the tip-off that he would give anyone trouble at cruiser; and was the harbinger of the war with Holyfield.
