Myth: Roberto Duran has a better resume than Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Duran would beat Mayweather like a step child. Look what Castillo did turning him into a runner and grabber and a look what Madiana did making Floyd fight for his life.
Those two guys were both nightmares for Floyd and were the closest to Duran in terms of style although miles apart in talent. Duran is a stylistic nightmare for Floyd. He’d run all night.

 

Benitez, Leonard, and De Jesus are all better than Castillo and Madiana. With a much different style to Floyd as well. Buchanan fights most similar to Floyd. It’s about styles.

If they had fought each at their respective peaks Duran most likely wins. Anytime after 30 years old Mayweather's chances improve substantially. In other words Duran was the better, greater fighter but Floyd did have longevity because he took care of himself much better. He also didn't have to fight anyone dangerous from 147 on. The competition Mayweather faced doesn't compare to Duran's resume. There is no one close to a Leonard or Benitez on Floyd's 147lb docket. Nevermind somebody like Hearns or further up Hagler.

Mayweather won the Welterweight title vs Carlo Baldimir.

Duran beat Sugar Ray Leonard.

Ricky Hatton would have beaten Duran anyway of the week. I thought I'd post that last sentence now and save you the trouble.

You’d even pick him over Hagler.

You pick based on emotion, and on numbers which contain no context.

Again, you never account for styles etc.

You are the very definition of a casual fan.

You basically just pick him because he was undefeated.


It never occurs to your tiny brain that Floyd fought lesser fighters in a weaker era.

It never occurs to you that Floyd wouldn’t have fought some of the guys who Duran fought.

It never occurs to you that Floyd never fought anybody the calibre of Duran’s best opponents.

The versions of Hagler, Hearns, Benitez and Leonard who Duran fought, were all SUPERIOR to the version of Manny who Floyd fought.
