It was so sad this fight got cancelled. Problem is no one wants to fight Wallin because he doesn’t bring much PPV but he’s a tough opponent.
Whyte ducked Wallin. Compare the damage Wallin took from Fury to Whyte's effort. Wallin is big, tougher and has better endurance. Obviously far smarter. Probably almost as dirty. He had a good shot at winning. Of course the British would find a way to have their 'brand' win if it wasn't KO'd.
I got Wallin on points, but we would likely see a matchroon robbery in favor of Whyte. Its a fight I want to see though.
In the scheduled Whyte-Wallin fight, Whyte had home advantage, A-side advantage, wanted an activity fight pre-Fury, wanted to build the Fury fight by KO’ing Wallin, wanted to get a symbolic victory over Fury by KO’ing Wallin and didn’t want to lose face, lose a payday or cost his promoter an event by ducking but still ducked Wallin anyway, having initially selected Wallin (over very poor alternatives like a washed up Arreola and Franklin, which Whyte received backlash for suggesting) partly because of the 6’5.5, 240 lbs southpaw’s perceived lack of punching power. Whyte (who had never fought a southpaw of any note and only had 6 weeks at most to prepare) got cold feet a month out after watching his conqueror A-side AJ’s 8-4 UD loss to the 6’3, 220 lbs light punching southpaw Usyk in Britain.
I saw Dmitry Salita in the ring with Franklin after the fight so I'm assuming that's his manager, who also manages Wallin. Why could they not make the Wallin fight last night if they were able to to make one with Franklin. Surely the Wallin fight would be just as easy to make if they have the same manager? Had Franklin edging it last night against Whyte with Wallin's height, footwork, movement and work rate would have thought he could get past him too.
Salita is Franklin's promoter. I don't think a Wallin-Franklin fight will be made. Why? a) It's boring. Most fights with Wallin are boring. b) It's practically a foregone conclusion that Wallin will outbox Franklin and win. That's bad because Wallin doesn't raise his stock with such a win (sure Franklin exceeded expectations against Whyte - but he did lose the fight) and Franklin's stock would be lowered by the loss. Salita can't produce big-money fights on his own. Why would any other promoter want to produce a fight featuring Wallin?
Wallin isn't anything special. Fury struggling with Wallin shows you how overrated Fury is not how good Wallin is. That being said Wallin would beat Whyte without much difficulty
How about fighters are allowed to have bad nights? When Fury needs to perform against his toughest opponents he finds another level and dominates them like nobody before has.
In boxing you're only as good as you're fight... So while I think Whyte would be on the juice and show up better if grew the balls to accept that one, I think Wallin would have a good chance at stopping the version we saw last night.
