Carlos Padilla timed that count with a sundial. Blatant & deliberate cheating on the part of the home-country official. Now openly admitted to. That's the real issue. Not whether Manny beat the count. He starts counting at '4' when he should nearly have been at '10'. In fact if you listen carefully, it sounds like he starts at '5' and then counts '4'. So the count began by going backwards. The result changed the course of two careers.

Indeed the referees do not have a stopwatch in my head and the counts of 10 are approximate.

But there the referee still seems to count quite slowly.

How was there a "long count"? I counted even faster than the ref and still had him up at 8. This is nonsense.

His opponent's nickname is literally named "Skinny"

Pac lost a fight, fighters lose fights. Look at guys like Golokivn, Loma and the great fighters who had like 500 Amateur fights not to mention all the training and sparring fighters have to do and then actually fight?

    Don't cry for Pac.

Sounds pretty similar to when Artie Levine knocked down Sugar Ray Robinson and was given a long count.

It's went down as a "legendary long count", but was it? I would love to see it, but apparently no footage exists. James Toney's trainer Bill Miller told me he was at the fight that night. He just said it was "back and forth" and that "Levine was a good puncher", but nothing about a controversial "long count".

Someone who used to post here and has actually had first hand knowledge of fighters from back then named Burt Bienstock has said himself that the count was pretty long.

The things and lengths people in this board go to to try and discredit Manny and Floyd are amusing.

While we’re at it they should also declare a NC for Ali-Cooper 1 because of the smelling salts controversy, Duran-Buchanan because of the low blow KO, and Pryor-Arguello 1 because of the mixed water.

Boxing is rigged as often as not. No Earth shattering news here.

It depends on the sanctioning body and athletic commission.

" If the boxer being given a count by the referee is down on the canvas of the ring when the referee completes counting to ten seconds, the referee shall wave both arms to indicate that the boxer has been knocked out and shall stop the contest."

https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default....If the boxer being, and shall stop the contest.

"The Queensbury rules state it should be ten seconds"

    https://boxingunboxed.com/2021/02/24/is-a-ten-count-ten-seconds/

    Most importantly:

The ABC rules don't make any mention of "10 seconds" or even "10 count", but they do note that a boxer has 20 seconds to get back in the ring after being knocked out: https://www.abcboxing.com/unified-rules-boxing/

Yes, I recall reading that post. We'll never know for sure. This thread proves exactly what I mean. I'm watching the same footage of Manny getting knocked down as all of you, and I saw nothing unusual about it at all. Maybe it's just in people's nature to always look for a flaw of some kind against someone who is/was successful. Even if I thought this count was long (which I don't), and Hussein couldn't finish Manny off in that condition, then it's all on him for letting it get away from him.

There was a short segment on HBO talking about the long count, many years ago. It was after the Tyson-Douglas fight when they had them in the studio to be interviewed. They compared the count of that ref to other fights and I recall Larry Merchant saying "the 14 second knockout is commonplace". In other words, rarely does a refs count line up perfectly with the time keeper.

That would sound pretty reasonable if Panama Lewis admitted to what he did and it were credibly determined that Ali had cheated. The butthurt runs deep in you.
