Lucas Browne. The self proclaimed G.O.A.T of Australian heavyweights (see video below). Avoided Samoan/Australian Alex Leapai for 15 years, even turning down a 50k purse vs Leapai, to go to NZ to fight for 5k. Browne called Leapai out when Alex was contracted to fight Klichko! lol

Brownes biggest claim to his ATG status was his win over Chagavez. Failing a fight drug test, Lucas was stripped of his title.

I dont know if Lucas was on clenbuterol or not. I do know he said he had never heard of it, yet a fighter he was waiting to fight was caught for it. He said he didnt need to take it to lose weight as he was a heavyweight... yet was posting weight loss photos of himself for 2 months on FB before the Chag fight. Whatever the truth, Lucas cant claim that win over the out of shape, overweight Chag, for but one version of a title.

Australia's
greatest heavyweight doesn't get ko'd by Paul Gallen. EVER. Australia's GOAT doesnt avoid Leapai, who may have the greater claim!! At least Leapai fought THE Undisputed champion! Many times, many offers Leapai put to Lucas, all turned down. You cant claim to be the best when you refuse to fight the man with another claim.

 

Chagaev is by far the best win for an Australian heavyweight. His world class wins there, but he has good wins by Australian standards over:

Opelu
Takehara
Rudenko

He's certainly the "greatest" Australian heavyweight of the past 50 years, and certainly the best H2H prior to Huni.

 

Chag fight was tainted. Chag was in horrendous shape. Fat, blowing hard..

Rubbish. Tony Mundine would have beaten Browne... and he was a middleweight.

WHY DID BROWNE ALWAYS REFUSE TO FIGHT LEAPAI????

Now, im sure this is going to be viewed as me picking on Lucas. He made himself fair game by claiming he is Australias GOAT. HE HIMSELF MADE THAT CLAIM, more than once! He has left himself open for debate, and contradiction. Colin Wilson has a better claim!

*However, Leapai was recognised by the ones THAT MATTERED that he deserved a shot at the man who was viewed as the best heavyweight in the world at the time.

*Lucas got a tainted win vs a dinky, fat, unfit slob, that was a disgrace to his former self. Lucas win was quickly taken from him. CANT BE COUNTED!

*Leapai has the better resume, and Lucas ran from him at every opportunity.

*Leapai has the better claim for the title.

I mean, those guys were all decent, but they weren't even close to the same plane as Chagaev. Admittedly Browne was on steroids, but even if you remove Chagaev, I'm still taking Browne.

Takehara, arguably the worst win I mentioned for Browne, got a draw vs Leapai, but was KOd vs Browne in the first round. Browne has genuine world class power. He's possibly a top 5 puncher in the division. Even without a good chin, Browne has a much better shot vs world class fighters, because Leapai has absolutely nothing for them, but Browne at least has his power.

 

Please be on a decent time at least because there is no way I'm staying up

 

And I'm pretty sure UFC will be on that night so....nah.
