The hate Wlad receives is insane. He unified and made 18 consecutive defenses over 11 years. Barely losing rounds in most fights. Half these guys lost making 2 defenses. Take off the rose colored glasses.

Too bad he never rematched Sanders. That was a bad bad loss.

Wladimir had good stats but you have to take into account a few things, his opposition was so/so and its regarded as maybe the weakest Heavyweight era of all time. He also had 2 bad losses on his resume 1 being a very bad one to Corrie Sanders, in which he got dismantled which does hurt his legacy. And by far the best fighter he fought Tyson Fury he lost to him very convincingly on points, although to be fair he was past his prime.

Again you can see it a few different ways and there's strong argument both ways, its the age old argument quantity vs quality and it's what you prefer. Overall i'm somewhere in the middle i think some of the old timers are a bit unfair when rating Wladimir, but again as i said Wladimir's era was a very weak one. And the fact the only opponent who would be a challenge to Wladimir was his brother, and the fact most people thought Vitali would beat Wladimir and knowing the fight would never happen, made it a dull era to watch in all honesty.

When you have a dominant champ the era often incorrectly gets labeled weak. It happened to Joe Louis too. You don’t end up ruling for 11 years unified without, facing quality fighters. Quality fighters that, had you not been around may have accomplished more and be remembered on a elevated level.
As for his Tyson Fury fight it was a snooze fest. Fury won but he scraped by winning rounds by 2-3 punches per round because Wlad didn’t let his hands go at age 39. And just shy of 70 pro fights under his belt. It’s not a bad loss by any stretch. Disappointing and boring yes.
Take a look at George Foreman’s record. He has over 22 wins coming over fighters with .500 or less winning records. He made two defenses to Wlad’s 18.
No shame in Wlad’s resume, Byrd 2x, Povetkin, Haye, Chagaev, Peter, Pulev, Thomson 2x, Ibrigamov, Mccline, Brock, Mercer and so on.
He fought boxers, punchers, southpaws, tall, short whatever.
I could boot 3 guys off this list before I even consider Wlad. Johnson, Frazier, Foreman. Oh and if you remove Holyfield’s cruiserweight career from his ledger his record at heavyweight was
24-10-2-1. Including 1-4 vs Bowe and Lewis the big guys he fought.

It's wishful thinking to imagine Wlad fighting confidently against Evander, you know he'd grab frantically when Holy gets inside.

Like I said, I have respect for Wlad's abilities but he fought like a freightened child and never beat anyone great, as far as I remember.

Evander Holyfield is a 190 pound guy with average power.

You are thinking of Evan Fields.

    The two are distinct.

Eh, I think Holyfield has to take the L here. Great fighter, great champion, I'm a big fan, but he lost too many of his big fights. That said, H2H, he's taking some of the guys on this list down other than just Tyson. Like Marciano.

If Holyfield bulked up naturally it would still be the same result, Wlad fights scared, gets KO'd.

Uh, no, it wouldn't. This why he used expensive, dangerous and illegal HGH.

George Foreman never rematched Ali, or Jimmy Young, or Evander Holyfield, or Tommy Morrison, or Shannon Briggs. He gave away his belt to avoid Axel Schulz who beat him and was robbed. Also received his title shot against Michael Moorer coming off a loss to Morrison. Convenient for him.
My point being you can rip apart lot of fighters if you look close enough.

Bingo. Here's the main problem with Wlad.

No other HW champ has had the luxury of having their big brother step in (school yard style) and remove the problem.

If Wlad re-matched the Sanders who fought (and shook) Vitali, then what happens? And what're the implications if he losses again?
