    Still waiting for the verified offers of $30,000 to fight Langford that Johnson refused .Also still waiting for the verified quotes by Jim Jeffries that he was prepared to defend his title against Jack Johnson.:think

    You can lead a racist bigot to water ,but you can't make him think!:lol:

    "Johnson's rise through the heavyweight ranks continued the following year. On February 3 at Hazard's Pavilion in Los Angeles, he defeated "Denver" Ed Martin to win the unofficial "Negro heavyweight championship." Before long, he'd also beaten the three other best black heavyweights of the day: Sam McVey, Joe Jeannette and Sam Langford. By the end of 1903, the Los Angeles Times declared that "Jack Johnson is now the logical opponent for Champion Jeffries.... The color line gag does not go now." Even the Police Gazette, the most influential tabloid in the "sporting" world, was calling for Jeffries to fight Johnson. Jeffries continued to refuse, and on May 2 announced that, having defeated all "logical challengers," he planned to retire to his alfalfa farm. But first, he planned to referee a bout between two white contenders, with the heavyweight title going to the winner.
    Johnson retired with an injured arm in one fight , he was 48 and again in another fight when he was 50 years old. Langford quit between the 7th and 8th rds to Joe Jeannette, he was 23 years old.
    Johnson was so scared of Jeannette that he fought a bout the day before taking him on ,and next day he dropped him multiple times in a 6 rounder.Look it up and while your'e at it find and produce those offers you keep prattling on about.You know ,the ones that don't exist!

    Both at their best I pick Johnson.
    P4P Langford is infinitely the greater pugilist,imo;
    "Sam is too small to ever expect to cope successfully with a man of Johnson's size and skill.
    No little man is ever going to whip Johnson.
    Langford is a wonderfully strong fighter,but there is little question of that in whipping such man as Lang and [Jim], Barry,no true line on him can be secured,as far as Johnson is concerned.
    To my way of thinking it will take a big man, as big as Johnson,and a clever one with a terrific kick in either hand,to whip Johnson." John L Sullivan.
