Once and for all, change the name. These guys do not descend from Joe Louis.

I understand your view. The bigger division taking the prestige. I get that. But it’s taking that prestige with a new history unrelated to John L Sullivan, Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey etc etc. a legacy that starts with lennox Lewis and up till now continues to Tyson Fury. A new division. Disconnected. Unrelated.

it allows the real heavyweight division to celebrate Usyk. And the bridge between him and say the last fight between Tyson and Evander Holyfield. The last fight contested between true heavyweights for supremacy at the true heavyweight division.

No problem with cruiserweight or any divisions actually. What I have a problem with is how weight divisions are cheated by fighters dehydrating and then blowing up again before the fight. As everyone does this, there is basically no effect 99% of the time, but it just seems bizarre to me. For example Dimitry Bivol. I am the same height and weight as Bivol on paper but he looks noticeably bigger than me on fight nights.

Why not just boost all the division limits by 20lb and be done with this dehydrate-rehydrate nonsense. There's no way it can be good for the body over a fighter's career.

P.S. I understand this isn't exclusive to boxing!

Thankyou. It’s normally what people say when they are wrong.

I'm starting to come to that conclusion.

It's not doing them any harm, I don't think deaths are on the rise or anything? If they make weight on time and still have the strength to perform at their best then good for them, they are not breaking any rules whatsoever, unless of course they have a check weight before the bout.

He's not using "super heavyweight" in the traditional fan sense, but in a way more akin to the amateurs.

But, and it's a big but, the likes of Usyk would just move up to SHW to go for the most prestigious belts in the most prestigious division.

I can respect wanting to continue the historical legacy & prestige, but sometimes that can be taken too far.
Before there was a LHW division HWs were often much lighter-even in the 150's like Ruby Red.
The question is does relabeling OR changing the effective categories better serve the sport & its combatants?
Allowing more exciting & competitive matches because guys were naturally around 170 or so & would usually fare worse against bigger men made sense.

I do not like day before weigh-ins, even if in most cases it does not cause harm, it may in the long run-& THAT is the major way that people are not what the labels say they are.

But even allowing them, a LHW will usually only weigh up to early 190's or so, max, in the ring.
Since people are getting bigger, whatever we call it, we need a division that covers Cruiserweight.
Or you could make LHW up to ~195 with same day weigh ins.

Now Choklab, you are being told correctly that what a division is, exists in relativistic terms.
That guys are usually what is roughly called "SHW" today in the HW division does not intrinsically make them this in absolute, literal terms-since in the pro ranks it was always over a certain weight is unlimited.

Also whatever is the heaviest division-assuming it is not something absurd & random like over 600 lbs...That wikl aquire the biggest prestige, people will assume that guys over 230 will be the best in H2H competition.

Now in shape & all other things being equal, they will be.

My idea is to HAVE a SHW division.
While there are too many divisions & belts watering things down overall, expanded lean body mass means this is useful.
You can also have it so the HW & SHW champions can have FACE OFFS for the 2 divisions where you can have a single, "All Weight" type champion.

So you might have Usyk fighting Fury for this prestige.
He could weigh in as recently the low 220's, & if he loses, still be HW champion.
But the only way a Fury (or someone else where the weight loss is more plausible), or say Joshua can fight at HW is if they get down below 235 or whatever it is ON fight night.
Otherwise only if a HW title holder-or maybe also top 10 ranked fighters-is willing to fight without gaining weight, can they shoose to fight for an "All World" title.

Does this make sense to people?
Do you agree this would be fair + stimulate more interest in, & revenue for, the combatants & the game?

This is a nice idea, Entaowed, and I think that could work in practice. Whilst we're at it, why not delete promoters and governing bodies and just have 1 (maybe 2) belts per division? UFC style. Less chance of big fights being missed and fewer - thus more valuable - world champions.

A SHW division is needed, surely. In the fighter's best interest and with the size of some guys nowadays. It would surely make things more competitive.

Not with the current “day before” weigh ins.

Yes the division that covers Cruiserweight has always historically been there. It, and it’s historical significance, needs preserved

yes I agree. We don’t need extra divisions but There has to be SHW. It’s been around long enough already. They walk amongst us.

Yeah they can do that like Roy Jones did for one fight when he beat Ruiz. He went back down afterwards as he didn’t consider himself in that weight class.

If Usyk did that at went back down he takes the prestige back with him.
