Pipino Cuevas vs. Gaspar Ortega

Gaspar Ortega would first have to withstand that bone breaking power of Jose Pipino Cuevas, remember Ortega is not Tommy Hearns or Roberto Duran.

 

Love this fight, one of the best fantasy fights at welterweight. I think Ortega could pull this off but I might be thinking with my heart and not my mind.

 

I think of Jose Pipino Cuevas breaking Billy Backus eye socket in their 1978 title bout.

 

Ortega is sturdy but not unstoppable (only stopped twice but also down a few times in distance fights) … and I don’t think he has enough slickness to avoid the left-hook scythe of Cuevas.

I see Gaspar up like 4-1 in rounds or something similar before the jawbreaker breaks through with that hook in the sixth, seven or maybe eighth. And once Pipino hurts you, you stay hurt.

True but those two Hearns and Duran kayoed Cuevas, that's why I posted them. Ortega was not either one of them.

 

I give him the edge too…likewise it could be heart related. I think it would be close, competitive and exciting..but I think Gaspar pulls it off.
