Well then you would be wrong, and Calzaghe himself would agree as he stated it himself.

Who do you think was further removed from their respective prime at the time of their fight, RJJ or Calzaghe?

I think many (though certainly not all) posters underrate Calzaghe's resume because they disregard several wins over good fighters and focus only on Lacy, Kessler, Hopkins and RJJ. Good fighters such as Byron Mitchell, Mario Veit, Charles Brewer, Robin Reid, slightly past prime Chris Eubank, Richie Woodhall, Sakio Bika and Omar Sheika. Not ATGs, but top 10 in the world SMWs in the main.

Thats the right tree to bark up if you want to defend JC against being overrated, not trying to claim RJJ was anything other than way, way further removed from his prime than Calzaghe was.

Sakio Bika was a decent win considering Joe broke his hand and suffered several butts. However he won pretty easily against a tough opponent and future champ.

he didn’t do bad. Byron Mitchell, Mario Veit, Charles Brewer, Robin Reid, slightly past prime Chris Eubank, Richie Woodhall, Sakio Bika and Omar Sheika. Jones. Lacy. Hopkins.

he went to America to fight both Jones and Hopkins. When did those two fight in Europe?

he also failed drugs tests didn’t he.

How great were some of the best guys Jones beat when he beat them? We can all play that game. Don’t get me wrong he beat James Tony and Hopkins. But How old were Vinny Paz? Mike mccallum? Virgil hill? Took him twice to get a win over Montell Griffin.

Don’t get me wrong. jones has the better resume. But let’s not pretend it’s light years better.

Kessler was legit at the time Calzaghe beat him. You can only beat what is around. It’s a win of high caliber at the time it happened.

Actually some of Jones's resume is actually underrated because people just scroll through his resume, and think he fought alot of bad opposition when that's not true.

Jorge Castro = Very solid win for a young Roy Jones a record of 130-11 who also beat Reggie Johnson x2.

Bernard Hopkins = Young but still a very good fighter and future ATG Jones beat him easily with one hand

Thulani Malinga = Beat Nigel Benn and should of had 2 wins over him, but was robbed in their 1st fight. Beat Robin Reid at age 40 who is considered one of Calzaghe's best wins, also went 12 rounds with a prime Chris Eubank, Jones dismantled Malinga in 6 one sided rounds.

Thomas Tate = Went the distance with Julian frigging Jackson giving him 12 very hard rounds, Roy Jones stops him in 2 rounds right after his fight with Jackson.

James Toney = P4P number 3 with a record of 44-0 considered the best Super Middleweight in the world Jones clowned him easily 12-0.

Merqui Sosa = Very tough durable fighter no one beat him easily in his prime apart from Jones.

Virgil Hill = You call Hill old but yet he fought Michalczweski prior to fighting Jones, and went 12 rounds with Michalczweski with an injury to his hand. Jones destroyed Hill in only 4 rounds with one of the best body punches ever, Hill almost made what 20 odd title defences ? and was legitimately only ever KO'ed by Jones.

Reggie Johnson = Not at his best weightclass but still a very good fighter and was only ever beaten convincingly by Jones, Johnson went on to fight Tarver to a close split decision loss 3 years after getting dominated by Jones.

Richard Hall = Gave Michalczweski hell in two fights and was unlucky not to win the 1st fight, if Michalczweski was in any other country he probably would of been stopped in 1st meeting. Jones absolutely dismantled Hall literally treating him like a sparring session.

Eric Harding = Beat Tarver and Griffin was in good form and considered a good fighter coming into Jones fight.

Montell Griffin = Two wins over James Toney, yes Jones had trouble the 1st time vs Griffin although he would of gone on to stop him anyway. Made an example of him though in the rematch with the one the most emphatic 1st round KOs.

Julio Cesar Gonzalez = Ended Dariusz Michalczweski's long Light Heavyweight title reign, and took away his undefeated 48-0 record, Jones absolutely toyed with Gonzalez in comparison.

That’s a good response. I agree with most of it. But for the drug cheating somewhat diminishing this resume and missing out all of the world championships held in Europe during this time, Jones is still p4p one of the best of that era.

Remember, Jones must be measured against the likes of Hagler, Monzon and Ray Robinson who all willing to compeat in Europe.

Disingenuous post. Harding suffered a serious arm injury during the Jones fight. Tarver beat Reggie Johnson clearly regardless of the cards. Gonzalez was coming off a life or death fight w Leterlough. Toney wasn’t all there. Hall wasn’t very good and had done nothing before fighting Jones.

Jones was more removed from his prime. But I say Jones still had something left.

Fair enough. "Something left" is reasonable, but about as far as you can go. He was a hell of a long way removed from his prime and isnt one of JC's top 5 wins, imo.

He beat Tito in the same year via wide margin, and Shika and Lacy after that. You cay say he had sometime left.
