Hate from who? A few hundred bums on the Internet? Canelo is one of the most popular boxers to ever live.

Yes other than drugs Clenelo does what we wish more fighters would do taking the tough fights challenging himself at higher weights! Not afraid to lose ? Or back himself against anyone? Either way wish the likes of Crawford had his attitude

The GGG robberies weren't necessary, Canelo was a 3 time junior middleweight champ, beat Cotto for the linear middleweight title and beat Jacobs for his IBF middleweight title, he unified the Super middleweight titles and beat Kovalev, a light heavyweight champion. Two competitive loses to Golovkin wouldn't have mattered, but they stole the fights anyway. The corruption is the problem, people don't forget robberies, you can't have it both ways, robberies and admiration. I don't feel sorry for him.

    Let's see.

Ducked Golovkin to fight Khan at MW, claiming he wasn't big enough yet despite being a huge drainer at 154 and easily the same size as a MW, and was of course happy to bully KO Khan at MW with a massive size difference.

That alone is worth all the hate.

Then ages Golovkin twice more after that.
Puts a hydration cap on Rocky Fielding, making him look like a zombie.
Lures Kovalev into a fight only after Kov is almost KO'd and has no time to rest then prepare properly.
Won't confirm the Callum Smith fight until the last minute to mess with his preparation, Smith only found out on Twitter.
Talks up Beterbiev fight, even Usyk, then takes on the weakest punching LHW in Bivol (the cherry that backfired).

This is your 'man of honour'?

Does anybody these days even understand the concept?

Oh, and he's a massive roider who couldn't hurt Cotto but suddenly starts one-punching SMW/LHW size opponents.

The real question is, why does he get so little hate?

No, I don't think he gets too much hate. I think he gets what he deserves. He is not respectful of GGG, a guy who is respectful toward him and has always handled himself professionally. Yet Canelo snubs him.

I think a lot of people, including myself, believe him to be a bit drunk on his own abilities. He is a very good fighter but he is not the legend he holds in his own mind. Bivol more than proved that. Had Canelo won that fight he probably would have thought he could fight for the HW title. He has lost any sense of perspective but hopefully the Bivol loss grounded him a bit.

He also should be fighting guys in his weight range that he has ignored. Benevidez, for example, is a fight that should definitely happen. But it probably won't because it is a high risk fight for Canelo. But if he didn't learn anything from the Bivol fight let's hope he fights Beterbiev next. Now, that would be entertaining.

I respect his skills and work ethic. He's also not afraid of challenges.

On the other hand he also stacks the deck to favour himself like with clen, rehydration clauses, stacked wraps and all the very favourable decisions he keeps mysteriously getting from the judges. That's unsportsmanlike.

He is the face of a sport that is everything but dead because of the kind of shenanigans he and his promoters have been famous for.

Add to that - Fixed fights/sparring sessions, conning fans right in front of their faces. Kovalev was the most obvious followed by Yildrim, Smith, Plant and even GGG sold out in the third fight

Don’t forget killing a sparring partner also

“He is the face of boxing”. One of the most irrelevant things I ever read regarding fighters. People, being the face does nothing. Why do fans get excited for this?

Any fighters that become the face of boxing and a huge money maker will always get a lot of haters. It's happened with ODLH, Mayweather, Pacquiao, and now Canelo. Personally I think he gets a little too much heat because of the favoritism that he's had since he's the boxing darling and superstar, but this isn't anything new. Ali and SRL had some favoritism as well. At the end of the day history will see Canelo as an ATG.

Like any hyped fighter, he probably gets too much praise and too much hate. I manage to give him a little of each. Also, PFP fighters don’t get dominated like Canelo was dominated by Bivol. Bivol is a little bigger but the difference wasn’t that great in the ring. Plus, he wasn’t blown out by a huge powerful guy. He was outboxed and had no plan B. PFP fighters are not one dimensional like Canelo showed he was in his last fight. It was shocking to see and I picked Bivol and bet on a Bivol win. Didn’t think he could do it that easy.

The corrupt judges he manages to employ for every fight and the cloud of corruption that sounds Canelo is what I hate the most. But unlike Crawford and Spence, at least Canelo is willing to fight the top guys at his weight every once in a while. Those guys are disgraceful.
