    That would be a good thread. Apparently Jack Britton and Ted “Kid” Lewis in are credited as being the first to wear mouthpieces in their 1921 bout.

    Richard, If I ever got a chance I certainly would...I got a little excited then and my ears perked up because there's a de Vita place a few scant miles away from where I live. Wherever is it, I'll pray, and wish for you the very best.

    Seem to recall Paulie Malignaggi wearing tassels in a couple of his fights.

    I don't know the answer to this, but I'll offer Lee Savold v Selman Martin in 1941. Maybe someone can find a newspaper decision later than that, but there can't be many. Of course, the line between a competitive no-decision bout and an exhibition can be a blurry one.
