Once again people either completely ignore the psychological factor or they overblow it.

Easy to confuse symptoms with causes.

And those symptoms served Mike just as much as one might reason they impaired him.

As it often reads, the VERY best Tyson was pristinely attended to and really, quite high maintenance. Very precariously balanced.

How much better would a LOT of other HWs have been if they were so considerately attended to themselves?…and that question is no more a WHAT IF than those often played on Mike’s behalf.

If we afford Mike such deep psycho analysis, then that treatment should be afforded exactly the same to each and every one of his opponents - quite obviously, that is never the case.

Mike did not beat his best opposition - fact, and there were several opponents in that category.

Ali well exceeds those who Tyson did prevail over. Ali also exceeds those Tyson lost to.

Tyson does not confidently exceed, if he exceeds at all, the best Ali himself faced and defeated (save for a well shot Ali losing to Holmes - and “that” Holmes beats Mike, imo).

There are at least two opponents that Ali defeated that many believe (including myself) present as flat out stylistic kryptonite to Mike.

Tyson poses a stylistic problem for Ali imo. He’s faster of both hand and foot than Joe Frazier. He weighs more and has a better chin. An aggressive Tyson of 1988 I think forces Ali to repeatedly hold. And wins a decision over Ali. I see an ugly fight. Tyson is fast enough to close the gap on Ali, which erases Ali’s best feature his legs, and leads Ali to his second defensive choice the clinch. Tyson has to be peak though otherwise his stamina might let him down late in the fight. But I think he banks enough rounds to win the match.

The same Tyson who obliterated anyone in his path and cleaned out the division while he was fully focused on boxing.
This is about prime vs prime, not about who had the better career.
Tyson has the stylistic advantage and he's twice as good as Frazier, who gave Ali hell.
    Tyson will beat Ali.

Ali cleaned out his division across 2 decades and he certainly wasn't fully dedicated to boxing that whole time and was often out of shape. Tyson was only elite for about 3 years.

Ali wasn't in his prime when he lost to Frazier, so let's use your own logic. Ali was twice as good as Tillis and Douglas who gave Tyson hell. Ali will beat Tyson.

Ali beats every boxer Tyson beat. Some of them he could beat twice in one week.

It doesn't matter for how long he was elite, that's the version we are using. Like I said, it's bot about achievements.

    Tyson has the stylistic advantage.
As for Tilis and Douglas, Tyson clearly beat Tilis and he was completely unprepared for Douglas. Ali was properly prepared for Frazier.

He was not the same boxer after he fired Rooney.
And Holyfield fought nothing like Ali.
