Canelo would kill him to the body and stop him. Watch the fights with Plant and BJ.

He'd have to catch him first.

Martinez had much better movement than either of Saunders or Plant.

And he was more offensively minded than either of them.

While Canelo is not Pavlik, the Sergio-Kelly fight gives some clues.

****ing Chavez Jr. walked him down, as did Margarito early in his career.

Canelo has a far deeper resume and the longevity of his prime is substantially more than Sergio's.

Peak vs peak though, I'd have Martinez as a live underdog. So much so in fact, that it would be close to 50/50 for me.

The Margarito bout is about as relevant to Martinez's career as the Rustico Torrecampo bout is to Pac's career.
A fight early in his career at 147, and at 22. He'd been boxing for two years at the time.

And Chavez won exactly one round thanks to a lucky punch in round 12.

For the first eleven rounds, he was beat like a drum and clowned by the Argentinian.

Until he wasn’t. There was nothing lucky about Chavez’s performance. Marines was lucky that it didn’t happen a round or two earlier.

Martinez was barely getting by guys like Barker and Macklin. He never was on Canelo’s level period.

Canelo too strong and too good ... the very best Martinez is a gallant loser ... anything less gets beat up

    Nonsense.

You'r e talking horse**** again...like the time you tried to dispute that Foreman had two HW title reigns.

He stopped both Barker and Macklin while being well ahead on the cards.

    Again, nonsense.

Aside from a loss early in his career before he learned his craft, his only loss was a splt decision to Paul Williams, a far better opponent than nearly all of Canelo's opponents, and he avenged that loss with a more brutal KO than anything on Canelo's resume.

I don't know what the outcome would have been had they been able to meet prime for prime, but I have no doubt that it could well have gone either way.

You didn’t watch those fights. Plenty of people think he lost to Murray too if you want to take it there.

That’s correct. Foreman had one reign. He never successfully defended in the 90s.

    I watched them both.

And again, in case you forgot, both guys were stopped.

    So What ?
Plenty of people think Canelo lost to Lara and Trout.
And nearly everybody thinks he lost to GGG.

And "if you want to take it there," Murray was a prime 30 yr old...Martinez was 38, at the end of his career.

    No,NoNeck.

If a fighter is the lineal HW champion and loses that title, and then many years later, he again beats the lineal HW champ, he becomes the lineal champ again.

Foreman's second reign began the second Moorer was counted out.
His first defence of the lineal title came the following year when he defended the title against Schultz.

False on all counts, other than Sergio getting a couple stoppages after struggling quite a bit.

    The facts are there, lad.

I laid them all out for you.

Crying "false " does not affect the veracity of those facts, but it does tend to make you look more like a troll than a serious poster.

    I think we're done here.
