What difference is it compared to all the other PED cheats that have been caught in the last 10 years?
Covering up the first failed test. Covering up the second failed test until it was leaked. Keeping the fight on as long as they could meaning thousands of fans lost committed money. And I don't think it's finished by a long way yet.
Of late everyone is listing reasons why Benns fancy lawyers get him out of bother but why is there no talk of Benn being sued? -Eubank could surely sue him for loss of earnings, literally millions he lost. Eubanks team also lost their cut. -The TV networks would have sold advertising space during the fight along with PPV sales. -BBBOC for liable, Benn throwing around accusations along with matchroom. -VADA testing being criticized, why don’t they come out fighting?!!
I have no sympathy for anyone who lost money buying tickets or travel on that event. If you’re stupid enough to be hyped for a sham match like that then more fool them.
A thousand apologies mate, I missed that bit at the end of your question where it says "excluding affected people I think I'm superior to". I hadn't paid for anything, and wouldn't have done either, before you make incorrect assumptions.
Benn isn’t the first PED cheat of the last 10 years and there will be plenty more in years to come. Every single promoter of every guilty fighter would cover it up given the chance and I imagine it’s happened plenty of times without us knowing. Boxing is a horrible and corrupt sport so it’s no surprise to me whatsoever. The fight will happen in a few years time, the hype from this will make it a bigger event meaning the fighters and promoters will be paid more. The only losers from this are the people willing to pay ppv prices and are stupid enough to be hyped for a mismatched fight which is billed as a rivalry just because the fighters dads fought 30 years ago.
I largely agree with what you said there, but I think proper boxing will die without the money from those willing to pay for the "high profile" fights, at least they are regulated. Otherwise it's "WWE" style Youtube boxing taking over. EDIT - I've deleted some long-winded text from my original reply about what I think this saga is really about.
I think you answered those questions before you even asked them. He's lawyred up so if he can 'prove' his innocence then they can't do anything right? Also all those you mentioned seemed OK with going through with it so I doubt they have a leg to stand on.
Although this wasn't a fight I would have gone to I don't think the perceived quality of the matchup is relevant to whether the ticket holders are deserving of our sympathy. It seems as if the people putting this on were privy to information that put the contest in jeopardy and that they had that knowledge within a time frame that would have allowed folk to reclaim some or all of the expenses they'd committed to if they had also been aware it may not take place. Instead they kept quiet and tried to push it through putting many boxing fans out of pocket. I don't think that's right and the question if whether the fight should have taken place at that weight is I think a completely separate one.
Agree Eggie Hearn of Matchroom Mass Eggs Productions hid the truth and should spend some of the hundreds of millions of acquired loot from mugs compensating every fan for all losses. If not then fans should boycott all his future cards and the 200-300 DAZN UK subscribers should unsubscribe for good.
Undercard fighters too. I appreciate at least some got on another card, but were they all "fully compensated" for their losses/expenses.
Hopefully Benn brings out a few books and a single like the forums favourite tinker off the back of all this.
I'm not sure the current legal case with BBBoC is about the PEDs aspect, I suspect it's much more about whether they had authority to remove their sanctioning of the fight, "VADA/confidentiality.you leaked it" etc etc). If Benn's lawyer's ( and any other interested parties who may be contributing donations ) win, then does that mean the "sue-ers" will be redirected to claiming against the BBBoC and bankrupting them? Some people would be veeerrryyyyyy happy with that ... I think any "innocence" stuff being considered by any authorities at the moment is just the WBC only.
